JR's logo is pretty nice on the home page. Any chance we can find a permanent home on the web page?

Can anyone give the history of Island Sails for the people who weren't around then? Just Curious.

Thanks!

Johnny Read was responsible for 'Island Sails' using the http://www.bigwavedave.ca/gallery/album ... 127/JR.jpg logo . He created these sails after being inspired by 'Venturi sails' designed & built by Ross Harrington. ( http://www.sailworks.com/history ) Only a few Island sails were made, I used my 4.8 for years after buying it used !!! Bomb proof gear made locally by a guy we miss. http://www.bigwavedave.ca/wiki/index.php/Johnny_Read 8)

---have to give credit where credit is due. Ross H. was the force behind all the designs in those days. After Windsure & Venturi Bruce P. ran with the idea to Hood River and turned it into a commercial success,,, as did John R. to a smaller extent, with Island Sails. I had a 5.0 that Johny made, and had many hours on the water until it finally disintergrated.

Anyone have any old pictures of an Island Sail? Were there shops on the island that used to sell wind gear exclusively?

Kona Bud's in Departure Bay. Bought my Mistral Tarifa there and took it to the Gorge. That was a scary experience. Tail walking a 10 foot board in 30 knots with minimal skills. Ed Wilde had a shop in Lantzville then Coombs for a couple of years too. Hopefully windsups will bring people back into the sport.

Elk lake sports. Way back when, I think most of those guys worked there or sold products thru the store. Brian Mac was the owner, Ross H. Can fill in the blanks.

Oh ya, Richard did a short stint as a fashion model. I still have the mag.
