Shark in Tofino
This shark beached itself at North Cherstermans, Tofino on Friday. Can you name the species of shark? I can post more pics if anyone is interested.

This is a very young Salmon Shark (Lamna ditropis), less than 3 feet long and commonly mistaken as a "baby great white". We have had a handful of such strandings (that we know of) along the outer coast in the last few years. These strandings normally occur down in S. and Central California so it is interesting to see it happening here. We are keeping track of all shark, skate and ray reports in BC so if you come across any, dead or alive, we would love to know and share: http://bcsharkreports.blogspot.com/
