Lower your boom and shorten your lines might be the answer. Note other sailers arm position.

What height should the boom be in relation to me standing straight up on the beach?

after i rig and before i plug in the uj i stand up the sail and confirm the boom clamp is at my chest - i use the mantra 'nipple clamp'.. this works for me but if youre running long lines you might be more of a shoulder guy.

When just blasting along, you can also have your hands closer together - I believe shoulder width if recommended - tightens the lines a bit, and ensures your lines are balanced. A wide stance is often a reaction to lines out of place. But hey, its hard to believe you just started at New Years.
