Will be in Florence this afternoon/evening .. Any recommendations as to where to stay the night (camping with family &dogs)?
Preferably on our way south to hit the Cape/pistol river tomorrow :)

check out bastendorf beach west of Coos. It's looks like a good spot to camp. Moo and I surfed there earlier this summer.
You can camp at the jetty at Florence but it can be miserable with cold winds and jetty chicks

Camping in florence, with family. Um, not on the Jetty unless you want to be single soon, and small dogs get blown across the dunes. Honeyman campground has ATVites who like to ride those wonderful things 24-7; noisy. Any of the campgrounds at the north end of town are decent.

There's also floras lake an hour and half or so south. It's super family friendly.

I always stay at the Port Authority campsite which is right downtown. Great restaurants, Coffee shop under the bridge, all within a short walk. Don't get the tent sites. Get one in the main part. A couple of bucks more expensive but you are not in a gravel parking lot.

Florence was maybe 15 knots and small surf - not worth the long walk :/
Gonna try camping at William Tugman state park in the middle of dune country (anybody stayed there before?) and going for the Cape/pistol river tomorrow! 25 knots in the forecast!
Which forecasts do you guys use? WindsurfOregon.com?

One thing I learned down there last time was to watch the temperature in Medford. The models and NOAA can be calling for wind but if Medford is around 100F or higher the wind stays off shore. The two days that happened we went 45 minutes north to Bandon and had a good time.

BWD, iwindsurf and NOAA.

Camping on the florence jetty is actually really nice if it's not windy. We've scored several really pleasant nights there now with light S winds.
Don't forget to bring a towel!

+1
(got more sessions at Bandon than Pistol River in 2015 due to the 'high heat')
