Island View Weather Station and Webcam

Post by bwd »

For the last year, WindePendanT (Sasha) and I have been working on getting a weather station set up at Island View Beach. We have all of the equipment ready and we have a site for it. Graham, in the house on the beach to the right of the first parking lot, is willing to have the weather station in his yard...thanks Graham!

What we need to do is clear an area for the weather station. There is a small hill that is filled with blackberry bushes that needs to be cleared. A hole needs to be made for a 15 foot wooden pole for the anemometer and we might need help raising the pole. So can we have some volunteers for this? Hopefully we can get 3-4 extra people and this would go fast. We could start tomorrow, Sunday June 22 at 9:00am if that works for people, or we could try for next Saturday. Thoughts?

Post here if you are interested in helping out. We might have to do it over a few days. The first would be to clear a spot and the second would be to put the pole in place. Bring suitable clothes and any garden tools that would help.

Thanks
dave

Thanks everyone, see you at 9am. I'm sure we can finish in a few hours, especially considering the forecast

Thanks to everyone that showed up today! Big thanks to Windependent (Sasha) for helping out over that last year and to Graham at Island View for hosting the weather station.

Sorry it was a little disorganized and there wasn't enough work for everyone. The original plan was to clear more bushes. But it all worked out and amazingly the station was put up and is running now. I'll put the links up tonight, and hopefully get the live data feed up and the data on the Latest Reports page soon:
http://www.bigwavedave.ca/IVWS.php

There might be some tweaking over the next few months to make sure that it stays running, we'll see how it works. ALSO please let me know if the wind directions are accurate - I can adjust them a bit if they are off.

Dave
