Better to try than not! Definitely not yesterday, but fabulous light wind planing practice (6.0/111L in ~15 knots - used to need a 7.5 for this). No jumps or loops, but fun jibes and one successful heli....

First 1-1/2 h was around 15 knots just cruising on big the boards. The wind picked up to 20+ as it got dark so I had to milk it for a dusk session which gave me just the fix I needed. Great day to compare all 3 boards in the same wind. :D :D :D :D Wfish did great considering he was planing with a 6.0 in around 16 knots.

Arrived to see Kus holding a 4.2 down in huge swell. The first part of the session was barely doable; I could have used a 3.2 on 60 litres. Had some great smacks on breaking swell, one good backie, and a fun down the line ride on a freak inside swell. Then it got BREEZY. Rain and wave spray blowing sideways. Tom left and I decided to stick it out for a few more runs. Then it got REALLY BREEZY. On my last run in, a rogue swell jacked up on the reef, picked me up as it was breaking, scrubbed me ove ... Too windy for me. Very nice waves though, should have been out earlier when it wasn't quite as windy. Got a few really nice carves and jumps, but on the whole, too windy. Not too many people out, where was everybody? A 3.5 and a small heavy board would have made the session epic.

Last day in Paracas! Had the bay to myself for the first hour. Super stoked to have finally become comfy in higher wind on the 12. Mako felt long compared to the freestyle boards I've been trying out, but felt great in high powered slalom turns downwind. Toeside feels easy now, but jumping still hit and miss on the landings. Shorts and rashie weather. I'm going to miss it! Not bad, was able to kite 5/6 days. Too windy for me one day, could have windsurfed on 4.7. Victoria bound now. looking forward to winds ... (more)

First day on the water kiting since August, and only 7th day kiting ever. Felt great on my first run out and back, then stupidly luffed the kite on an unintentional high jump and wound up in a big mess. Swam in and began the untangle fest. Water is warm, blue, and clear. Felt overpowered, but discovered that I'm keeping the kite too low and powered up. The new bridal has transformed an already great kite into something else entirely. Perfect bar pressure now and easy handling. Can't wait to try again tomorr ... (more)

That was really rideable last Monday.

Normally I hate NE wind, but today might have changed my mind. Warm (for a NE), great Gorge-like swell, steep port ramps and lots of wind. A bit choppy later on but some great swell on the inside. Super strong gusts near the end. It was one of my best NE sessions :D Kus, Mark and Tim ripping up the swell.

Wind started N and I was worried about OP, but it dropped quickly. Then very gusty off James NNE. Then clocked NE and filled better, one tailwalker with the Kona and a 5.0, then went to the Evo. One long WOS then a few runs where I stayed upwind and even managed a dry missionary jibe. Gusty tiredness, 4 hours in the drysuit! Got a charleyhorse going for the back strap, owww. Russian Pirate owned it! One exciting kite catch for a teabagger in a gust. Lots of big branches down on drive home.

Finally a more classic CB day. A little light and holey at times but amazing waves for smacking. One clean endo overrotated. Paul rippin' & flippin'. And now for two weeks of outflow ... a.k.a. family time

Pretty fun for 3c and sharp hail pelting in the face. Snappy switch front side top turns and decent wave rides w mini cut backs. Current was strong and NW wind is really dirty and twitchy with these fronts so it was hard staying upwind. This spot is strange in that it's a lot winder inside than outside so you end up doing shorter tacks, but you get plenty power in the surf.

Smooth and even swell in the bay gets chop protected by the point w still enough wind to slash. Some head high swells really clean ... (more)
