Got to RB later in the afternoon as Tweezer, Idefix, and Bobson were giving up on the reducing winds. Luckily my Cab6.2 and big foil let me get up in the light winds for about an hour. I missed out on the Idefix's whale watching event. It likely did not happen since there was no video evidence. Just like my session didn't happen since I forgot to switch on my GPS watch. Regardless, it was nearly summertime fun!

Big Fish!
11:00, cool sunny day shaping up to be another fun session South Island. Adequately powered for the first hour on the 6m and 1250cm foil. Just enough wind to complete the jibes. Tweezer called a whale sighting on the outside. Jibed around following the Tweezz to see a lone gray whale make a brief appearance in his wake. Majestic presentation complete with the slow fluke descent.
Nice to see them around.

Wow Esquimalt was ripping.. only expected it to be 8-10 knots. Perfect day to use the 120L. Of course it's the only thing I didn't pack.. so I settled for the 160L with a 5.7. Still had a blast having little bursts of planing over the waves and got lots of waterstart practice. Jezze this big board slaps waves.. not the greatest feeling lol. Windsurfer Sean just arrived as I was leaving.. that makes 3 windsurfers I've met so far in Victoria! I wonder where the rest of them went? *shrugs*

Pretty light air for my gear choice but it worked out pretty well! Even got my foil out of the water in the anemic breeze a few times. Practiced breaching the wing tips on hard carves and am so surprised at the ability of the MA1225 to ignore a breach. Eventually the wind backed and I got stuck off foil after a jump. Sat on my board and spinnakered home (one bonus of a southerly at RB if the wind backs off).

Saw some tress moving around my house. Called Tweezer man and he said RB was 5m. Packed my gear, loaded the dog, and headed down. Steady 15Kts that was really SW. Went with the 5M and it was great for 45mins. Practiced some flat water moves, and decided it was time to put the straps on and maybe try a jump or two. 15 mins of messing with the strap setup on shore and the wind dropped off. Little slog session and then just some chatting with the RBFC on the beach. Still a good day :)

Arrived early for marathon session. Good first 3.5 hours, last 60 mins was a lot of schlog! Lots of Wings and 2 Windfoilers, thanks MF4! Lots of wild life out today, Sea Lion that seemed attracted to The Twizz, A whale that was getting whispered to by Danno while The Twizz watched and some Ta-Ta's on the beach. Long rides down to Trial with The Twizz and MF4. Nice steady 12-15kt wind most of the time. Too lazy to change sails or foils, just used what I had rigged. 90+kms is a pretty good day.

Love that steady South wind! Coronation day God Save The Wing! Flat water to gybe on (almost flew through a few, just not enough juice) both sides of a few tide/wind waves to get a downwind push on. Got out the big board to more happily take the 6.0 sail, which self-identifies as a 5.7, with a few long tears in the centre panel I keep forgetting to tape up [thanks Bobson!]. Followed Bobson and Tweezer most of the way to Trial - found out the attraction was a large whale going down Enterprise Channel. Fabu ... (more)

Beauty morning - only one out on the water at the start. Started off super light, maybe 10kts but picked up a bit through the session. Way more south than usual with long runs from clover to brotchie possible. 3 sea lions came around the point, swimming west. I lost track of them and came within a meter of running one down. A bit surprising and I'm always reminded of how large they are up close.

Day Off, NICE!! Arrived to 10-12kts and quite steady. Rigged up the Seven.0 Flyer which is called my 'Session Saver'. Tide was out so had to walk gear down to water and then wade out as there were lots of weeds in close. Then just barely made it over the sandbar. NICE! Took a minute to get up on the foil as I was using my 800cm2 front foil as I usually have been using my 1100cm2 foil. The 800cm2 is amazing, points high, and flies so smooth and fast. It just needs much more speed to get foiling compared to t ... (more)

I did the wing cover thing again. At least this time I realized after only 5 blow out water start attempts. I was getting pretty upset at the buoyancy fresh water before I remembered the covers were still on.
After that, about as good as Faber gets. 25kn gusty, shifty holey. Best spot is right at the provincial park point. Two different swells converge as the water gets shallow. 980 continues to impress, it's max glide per manoverablity ratio is perfect for picking up lake/inlet swell, pumping but ... (more)

Out for the second session of the day and didn't disappoint. well powered on the 9M for most of it despite some ups and downs.
2 pretty major gear malfunctions in one session though;
First was my twin tip strap ripping off my board when landing a jump . At first I thought just a loose screw, turns out I ripped the thread right out of the board. Quickly drove home to scavenge another screw to mount in one of the other mounting holes then back on the water.
Second was one of my centre lines Larks Head kno ... (more)

Apres' work day Ross Bay! An easy peasy day again, lightish wind, small swell. Had the gopro out again, got some initial footage then in my stop/start remote actions managed to change the mode to timelapse video so those are in the trash! Too bad has some good footage (i think) of most peeps out on the water, oh well, next time.

Finally feels like spring out there, scored a nice evening session yesterday with Chuck, Jerin and Scott. Was not expecting that at all. Arrived when the wind was light and rigged big, hoping to test out the 999. By the time I hit the water the wind had ramped up and it was way too much. Came in and re-rigged the 3.5 with the 799. Joined Scott and Jerin way outside to escape the weeds. Wow, some of my longest wave rides ever. Warm water, perfect wind and waves for days. Wind dropped around 7 so I came in an ... (more)

Sweet evening session on my new flat HA 270cm2 stabilizer which only arrived today! It felt fast and loose compared with the surf style 320cm2 curved stabilizer. Really powered at first, the middle a little less but enough to stay on foil, then it picked up again for the finally. Great way to end the day. New ear buds were the charm!

Fun evening blast with Tsawassen in freshening wind and rising swell with the flood tide. Warm! Party Waves! Stoked!
Impending darkness shut the party down all too soon.
Leftover scraps in the morning?

Fun session on the windsurf gear after my wing bladder popped while pumping. Overpowered on the 5.3 at first (easy waterstarting) which is a sail I hadn't used as i thought it was damaged but its a great sail! Some biggish waves off the point. Later it eased a bit and still easy to foil but really fun smoothies. Managed to link a sequence of gybes without falling. Feel like my stoke is back :)

A fun session and definitely way overpowered at times, launched on the Ross Bay side and spend the rest of the session around the spiral staircase. The hardest part was not getting bucked off the foil from all the random waves and swell that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Seems every session is a BDE for me these days. Fun times playing in the swells out by the point. Learning lots watching WindMD, MuchoGusto, WindJunky, and Idefix and trying to emulate their greatness. Occasional success with jibes and foiling the surf. OP'd often with my 6mX3, but I certainly didn't need to pump to lift. Loved the warmth, sunshine, steady winds, turbulent swell, and the kindness extended to newbies. Tested out my blaze orange backup drysuit - another win!

Light to moderate with some sunny breaks.
12:30, slow start but wind and swell built up nicely by mid-afternoon. The growing fleet of Sprinters arrived just in time to catch the best of it. Good dozen wings out and a couple of kiters to complete the ensemble. Nice warm session.

Arrived for the late shift prior to sunset. Very gusty with some disruptive cross swell- not my favourite conditions. It smoothed out beautifully for about 15min before returning to its gusty self.

Fun waves with randomly quite steep ones at high frequency. Also some longer low frequency waves that are fun to rocket along. Took a while to get comfortable. Small piece of kelp took me out once, and a small stick another time. Was OPed on 5m for a couple runs around 5:30, right before the scheduled peak wind at 6, so went in and swapped for 4m. Big mistake. Should have stuck with the 5.

Wing strut bladder popped as i took the hose off :( Back to the windsurf rig. I hadn't sailed the 5.3 for a very long time, and it was perfect for today and is a great foil sail! Overpowered the first while as I was waterstarting easily and foiling by the time i was upright. Timed my outings with the best wind. Last while the wind had dropped, but still foiling and the waves flattened a bit to really fun smoothies. Perfect for old man slow reactions! Went faster than I had for a while and even linked a fe ... (more)

Arrived at 4:30 to lots of wings in the bay, with the wind looking pretty light, some slogging and some flying... Lucked out and the wind picked up within 2 mins of being on the water. Swell continually got better and wind stayed strong. Super fun session, wasn't expecting much and it sure delivered.

Cloudy but warm, it seemed like it was right between a 10m and a 12m wind. I waffled as I watched Eric pump a 12m but finally went small and I was glad I did. Although the first few minutes felt a little under powered, the wind came up properly and then the 10m was more than enough. I had lots of fun in the rollers as the Celero is a fun, quick board and happily there was not a lot of chop which makes riding it not so much fun. I was wary to stay fairly inside as the wind was WNW at times and if you get ... (more)
