Started later than the models advertised. But it was worth the wait. Tried out Bobsons old 6 m flyer. Id never rigged a crammed sail before so it took me a while and hints from ULR and Tweezer (Bobson was long gone, racking up the km). It was a proof of concept. Overpowered most of the time but in the lulls I could feel the much stronger pull compared to my wave sails. Back in to pump up the wing. Brr. Started on 5m, 1225 with chopped 212 tail on the Army board, no shim. Some good speed runs! Hands froze with no gloves. Wind got lighter, headed in and then it ramped way up. Marvellous Marathon Session!! Arrived at 11:30am to watch SAMMY's golden locks blowing in the light breeze. We walked out to the point and decided it was 10-14kts and decide a 5ish wing/sail would work. MF4 arrived and looked like he needed something with a bit more power so I gave him my 6.0m Flyer. NE Twin tip on flat shallow water between the sand bars. Felt smooth in the butter, as smooth as a foil except a lot more pressure on the legs to keep an edge. Doing this in 6" of water.! Started to feel over-powered and came in at 430. It really picked up towards the evening!

Perfect conditions for testing another foil, the Axis HPS 1050. It felt great right from the start, easy to get going and fast! No issues, turning, tacking, cranking on it. I likey!! Changed down to 4.0m to see how that was. Foil kept me going even though there was quite a few holey areas, nice! Need to have another session to check some things but overall impressed with it. Bobson, Sam, ULR already out at CP when I got there. MF4 was heading out on 6m windfoil. ULR came in to trade 5.5 for a 4m. But it dropped a little. Went with the 5.2m. Gusty with some lulls but never had to wait long for the next puff. Lots of dinghys out. Dog, Fraser, RichardM, Wingdoc, Gus all jumped in. Dragged ULR out to 10mile Pt to see if the swells were any good. Tons of current, but it was all going downwind. It felt like foiling in a river. The turbulent water made foiling feel pretty sketchy.

Arrived at the parking lot at dawn, rigged the 7.0 flyer, on the water just before sunrise. Had my doubts but conditions were great once past Clarke Rock. Easy upwind to Neck Point and then nice swell on the way back to practice depowered rides. Finished with reaches off Lagoon Head.

Started nicely powered on the 6m then overpowered on the 6m.
Took a break after 2.5 hours then switched to 5m Cabrinha X3 for another 1.5 hours. First time really riding with this wing. It is awesome. Wish I had bought 3 of them.
Nice big swells to play in. Made a couple of gybes and practiced riding toe-side.

11:00, 19kts reported at Entrance Island, whitecaps just outside of Clark Rock. Sailed overpowered on 5.0 for a few reaches then nicely powered on the 4m and 1200cm. Best swell today just north of Clark. Noisy sea lions claimed the bay, I gave them a wide berth. Wind dropped midafternoon to 12-14kts as forecasted.
Wind, swell and sunshine. Nice!

Longer session today in Lantzville. The NW turned into the launch nicely as the morning progressed. Overpowered at times on the 5.2 Flyer. Upwind run to Maude Island. Found the wind was cleaner coming out of Nanoose Bay with more westerly. Came in after 1.5 to warm up and then headed back out for some more. Sun eventually came out and warmed things up considerably. Great company today.

Surprise session! Went to CP hoping for 10kts. When I arrived it was 6-8kts so I moved as many logs as I could from CP boat launch #2 as I'm thinking Ill launch from there on the weekend. Put in a solid 45 mins of moving logs and looked up and there was 10-12kt gusts with 6-8 in between so rigged up the 7.0m to give it a go. Finally a decent sesh after three trips with no wind! Lunchtime sammies at the Ho'okipa overlook confirmed still some L-XL sets coming through. Only one surfer out braving the rainy (sharky?) conditions. Rain abated and forecast came through and scored 2 hrs of Kanaha goodness. Almost straight onshore which allowed easy chicken-jibing away from some closeouts. Also fun fun fun rides down through Boneyards.

Took afternoon off in hopes of wind. Well, it showed up, just not much of it. Waited around for 3 hours, went out, pumped lots and got some foiling rides. HighRocker out first, Sammy and MarkA out with me, MarkA got a few rides as well. Packed up in the dark. Waaay better than working this afternoon. Ugh, ONLY 14 minutes of foiling time.... seemed like longer. ha!

Bonus session on the new 7m Mantis. Definitely offers a significant bottom end improvement over the 5.5 but you really feel the size. The Phantasm 926 takes a bit to get going but has glide to spare and carves very nice.

Not much to say, saw that IV was 12-13kts so jumped in the Man-Van and got there in 15mins. Still said 10-12kts so thought I could make that work. Nope! By the time I got on the water it was maybe 6-8kts and it continued its downward spiral. Oh well, practiced pumping technique for 45mins. Wuh-Wah!!

Scariest conditions I've ever kited. Full butt pucker alternating with mud pie in my boardies. Carnage all around, lifeguards working hard. Mostly scary near kilometer wide closeouts but the odd actually rideable nugget. Went down once in front of a set and got lucky. Quit while I was ahead after the wind turned more onshore. Checked out Peahi at sunset, amazing.

Hung around with the guys for quite a while waiting for the wind to show up. Eventually it arrived.
Was going to use the 6m, but wanted another session on the 8m. The 8m was really good, but the wind picked up a bit, so decided to try the new 5m Crosswing X3. By the time I was on the water wind had started to die down, so not enough to get going on the 5m. Went back to the 8m, but wind continued to die.

Rain doused my stoke!
10:30 16kts reported for Entrance island, 14kts in the bay with an apparent wind line at Clark Rk. Rigged 5m and 1200cm. That should do? Adequately powered for about an hour then much more work needed to stay on foil. Back in to warm up the hands and upsize wing and foil. Good for another hour working the small swell by the reef. A small herd of sea lions sharing the bay without too much grumble. Slogged back in under heavy rain for the closing lull.
Spring's coming!

Off to try the new foil and 7m wing. Arrived to plenty of wind for the 5.5 so decided to rig that. Almost immediately died down to needing lots of pumping. Ended up slogging in for the 7m and getting in one run on that before it died completely.
Thoughts on the foil: seems very decent. Lots of stability and good low end. Curious to see how to really cranks powered up.
Thoughts on the 7m: surprisingly excellent. Pumps up on very little wind then absolutely trucks through the lulls. Significantly increases my ... (more)

Checked out CB and met up with kus to try out some beach and water starts using the new/used 5.0m! Thanks again for the lessons man! Keep trying when theres more wind next time.. I can see uphauling in stronger waves is less then ideal.. Probably should of had my fin that came with the tahe board so it wouldn't get beat up on the rocks lol, oh well next time. Sweet spot though, checked out SP and that looks like it could be fun. Beach looks alot more foot friendly then the bulbous rocks at CB. I guess once ... (more)

Went to check Willows this morning and just not enough so went and earned some family credits and then came back to CP at 2pm, not much wind. went to Willows as I saw some peeps through the binocs. Highrocker, Mt. narG and DOG hiding in his car. waited 20 mins and DOG sacrificed himself by 'fake' leaving but that didn't help. Too much crazy gusty fun! The 1500R and 4.2M on the 90L felt like an old slipper. Gusty from 20knots to zero and back again. Some nice swells. This is best sport for these gusty near-shore conditions, when a kite would have fallen out of the sky during the "off cycle". In a game between the wind and I, I won that one!

Winds as advertised. for 2 reaches on 94/5.3. Got some more 110l slog wave sailing in on the beauty sets rolling in from south but it was done. Might have been ok on 5.7 but that passed during the hopeful period. Spent a while with Mick on his beach and waterstarts in a tough-learning shorebreak.
Udder again amazes us with his adventures, coastguard cancelled, eldercare is apparently in order.
