NS - Lawrencetown Beach
Initially foggy and around 15kts, there were about 5 kiters rigging up and I joined in. Incoming tide with some current, had to negotiate the large sandbar at the beginning. Managed to get about 45mins before the wind started dying and large sets started building with the incoming tide was making it hard to stay upwind.

Well, after yesterday afternoon's horrendously crowded conditions ( there was a total of 5 wingdings on my beach:-) was nice to have the ocean to myself again- well, except for neighbor Mike the kiter - we have an unofficial competition for the most days in a year.
Really good conditions- some good sized swell, less weed, reasonably consistent wind.

A unicorn day - enough wind to use the preferred 5m, but not too much so that launching from the home beach was a fuster cluck (cause i wouldn't want to drive the whole 5 minutes to the Spit).
But like ants to a picnic, that bloody sargassum was annoying, and caused quite a few unplanned Shamus - ie like a whale breaching for the tourists!

Went to RB to work on SUPfoil paddle ups with Sam but Sam sent me a text that said "See you at Gonzales". I went to RB anyway thinking he'd meant RB for some reason. Got to the beach and it was fully wingable and there were orcas out apparently. Sam showed up eventually to the correct beach, LOL, and a bunch of us got a session in. Worked on staying high with minimal pumping and trying for max DW glide. Amazing how much energy is stored at the top of a 1.5' little swell when you tap in correctly. ... (more)

great local session, way more E than i've seen at this spot before. had to wade WAY out with the onshore wind and shallow water, but once out there i got up and out no problem. getting some long cruisey runs now finally. I also checked Mill Bay, but Cherry Point (at the bottom of Garnett Rd) had more wind.

Big smooth waves, warm water and sunshine. 3x 1 hour sessions each better than the previous. Lots of eel grass for the first couple hours but eventually it cleared out. Awesome rides for the last hour on some BIG waves. One of the best sessions I have had to date.

Sadly, I chose the wrong place to party. RB was clouded so I checked Willows and found nothing. I decided to try Agate as IV showed good winds. When I arrived there was lots of 5m wind. With no warking 5m, I went with my small 6m. Unfortunately, by the time I got on the water, the winds had reduced significantly. It was possible to get foiling if you got a gust and you pumped both board and wing with tremendous effort and frequency. for me, it was way too much work for meagre returns.

Rigged for conditions at noon and slogged in 4 knots less wind at 2pm giving up after 25 minutes. Up to 4 wingers made it out after me between Hudson Rocks & the Light Station and had good sailing proving I should of rerigged.
The other half hour TOW was on Saturday with 8.2M and also was a slog up to fish hut rocks and back w/o enough wind to plain.
These marginal finning conditions at Pipers are a call for a large volume light wind board. Or something wide enough to get easily on the plane.

Pretty light on the 6m, but good morning anyway. Launch 915 and spend 15 mins floating the board out to deeper water on the incoming tide. Wondered if the weeds were going to stop me, yet found a mostly weed free zone 1 km out and stayed in this spot only a few hundred yards wide. Nice and warm in the 2/3 full suit. A big hole at 1045 and went in.

Well, after literally 2 months without playing in the waves, was really nice to be back out there!
Even nicer without the drysuit, gloves etc.
So while the winter has the more consistent wind, the warm summer definitely has some appeal.

Put the back footstrap on to try some jumping mostly landing on the nose and crashing . Landed one on the tail and managed to stay upright . No waves to jump off of which was probably a good thing until I figure out the landing.

I think I was the first kite on the water today. I stuck close to home and just went for a simple joy ride as well as continued to work on tack turns. Some tack turns were a thing of beauty and some were terrible. As the wind came up I came in for the Duke and resumed by joy ride and tack work. When I came in I was glad to see Emmanuelle and Greg, it had been a long time. I was too lazy to pump a smaller kite and so I packed up and headed home. It was a great couple days at the lake.

A late session shift Saturday night. You wouldn't know it from the gps tracks but the swell was all inside the bay and heading to the beach mostly right out from the launch and parking lot. Riding some waves flagged out to within 20m of the beach! That was different..and fun. Tweezer, Shaggy, RupDog, and a couple other new peeps out late. Tweez and I closed it out and shut off the lights.

Late shift. Waited for the swell. Treated to some sw conditions filling into the beach. Started on the 4m and played on the inside. As it got lighter, I had to slog in to get the 5m. Circled the swells with rup-dog, Ty, Alex, Owen, Tim, MikeB, Skylar, HardRocker, and later ULR, Jesse and a couple other new faces! Nearly got sucked into the kelp vortex off Clover Point. Sorry RDog for the uncalled 360! 180 of it was back at ya!

Unexpected treats are so nice. Expecting a slogfest after uninspiring OSRs, I was all set to pump up the big wing to make the session work. Happily I got away with using my smaller 6 and was treated to medium strength winds and nice rolly swell along with some steeper faces. Had fun trying to film Poper, Twizz, and RDog. I also witnessed a horrific near miss between RDog and Twizz. RD was so shaken, I had to force him to drink some post shred brew with me to calm him down. Lucky I had medicinal brews!

Great fun playing around. Going upwind, then surfing downwind was a lot of fun. Improving my jibs, left hand and right hand, riding toe side, also left hand and right hand. Surfing the little waves like a pro.

Great session! Started a bit sloggy with just DrMark and me on the water. With my 7m I was able to get up on foil on my good side fairly easily, but struggled a bit on my bad side. The wind soon picked up and had a lot more south in it than I'm used to. I was having an easier time pointing down towards Gonzalez than I have before. It was better than the graph shows! No problems with the 4m after 1pm launch. A few gusts concentrated to 30 but only at the the cliff face and not down where the meter is. Some amazing wing talent at the beach today! Loving this beach.
