Won highest bidder on Paul's Axis mast. Woohoo, thanks Paul: Excellent seller, super fast shipping, will buy from again. Now just need to diy the new stringy axis to kraken adapter for a dedicated foil drive mast. And a cheaper option for the bigger sab wings.
Pretty light in the inlet, with the same amounts of the occasional 20kn gust and 0kn hole. China creek must have been good by the looks way up the inlet.
Finally feelin the cuda copy. Or maybe the 980 just makes everything feel good in crap wind. For months I've been hesitating to take the 8.0 winging since I keep having visions of just going straight, awkwardly jibing, falling, then riding straight in the other direction. Had to goldilocks the mast with the rusty allen key I keep up my sleeve, but eventually found my just right for inlet winging. Then it was on. Ripping both heelside and toeside tacks, heineken jibes, everything but jumping. I couldn't believe how much I could lean into heelside tacks and have the board pulling me upwind out of them. Swing weight is good for tacks.
Pumping the cuda is neat too, no need to drive the front foot since the board length does that for you.
Tried some paddle ups at the end, but the bumps had died to 1ft or less so just a workout. Still surprised at how much better my balance was after that session.
Got to force myself to ride the 8.0 more often to get ready for next winter's sup downwinders.
