Worst (well, they survived unhurt?, so maybe second or third worst) nightmare o f every small vessel/board user. Remember the whales at Gordon's last summer? I wonder if this is real footage? Any more info on the clip? Seems improbable that anyone could have a whale land on them and not be crushed to pulp, or on their kayak and it not snap or crush, or that they would keep their paddle through the impact and dive sequence. If the whale hit just the kayak end, would it take it underwater for so long?
Had a humpback do this just a few metres from our boat in Prince William Sound - we were on a 41 footer, so not likely the whale was trying to find out if we were breakable! We were also doing about 35 kt at the time, and were clear almost as soon as it landed. If that WAS a real clip, I would like to see the aftermath- some frantic paddling would have been in order!
Skeptically yours,

Dood, you watch way too much TV Altering a picture in Photoshop is one thing, altering a movie...... Here I get skeptical. It seems very real, and even IF it was altered, to do that one would require equipment and software for many HUNDREDS THOUSANDS of washingtons, and rendering the damn thing would take a couple of weeks, at least, on a pretty good cluster, not mentioning altering itself. Estimation time to do that is up to 3 month. ( I may be wrong but that would be underestimation )
On a different topics.... I was wondering if I could outrun orca in case of been hunted, the answer is NO, they can swim as fast as 35 knts.
Geekly yours

It might take your average joe a lot of time to make that, but if you work for Coca-Cola, it probably takes less time and only millions of dollars.
It is indeed a fake, and you can read the full story here:

Cheers!

well, the yellow haze around the kayaks when it loads and the coolly executed eskimo roll after surfacing is the part that did it for me.....apart from the record sized whale....not to mention it wouldda been on every news channel in the world for a week and the next nike add....just do it, eh?
Wish less, sail more!!

I use photoshop in my work. My daughter makes digital movies. I've looked at it hard and I'm willing to bet (and I'm not a gambler) that it's not fake. There is nothing "wrong" with the picture, the whale is not too big (it's a fat 30 footer), and the kayaker isn't hit by the whale, MERELY capsized by it's splash. That yaker is an exceptionally cool dude, or dudette, though, for staying with it, rolling it out, and waving to his, or her, buddies. I can't think of any superlatives that might describe this. I'm stumped.
