Can you use a wingfoil on a windfoil board? Is there really any difference between the two other than one having a Deep Tuttle attachment and the other using a 4 bolt attachment? I’ve seen those Chinook adapters floating around but I know nothing about foils at all and don’t know if there’s something technical I’m missing if I go ahead and grab a wingfoil for my board… lots of parts floating around used it seems.

I would say a foil is a foil. I’ve used the same foil Wind and Wing foiling. I would say that Wing foils usually have a shorter fuselage usually. The top of the foil mast that attaches to the board either DT or 4-bolt plate is the part where it differs. Most wing boards have the 4-bolt plate. Winging with a Windsurf board with a DT connector isn’t the best as you can’t move the mast forward/back if you need more/less lift. If you are going to try with your windsurf board I would get a really long fuselage to get the lift further forward. I tried the Starboard Tuttle to plate adapter and it wasn’t great.

Ahh ok. I'm just looking around for windfoils to start windfoiling but there don't seem to be many out there used. I Just figured if i couldn't find one used, I could maybe try windfoiling a "wingfoil" to begin with. Sounds like its just mast length and bolt pattern on top of the mast that's different!

just so you know you will need a bigger van lol Ive been trying to make this work for a while now and it is really a slow process, very tiring without a longer fuselage and the mounting plate sucks. There were some good sales on windfoil boards recently at slingshot but you'd need to pick up in the US or you pay the new tariffs

Yeah fuselage length and geometry are different windfoil to wingfoil. Not only is the fuse typically longer, the front foil is mounted further forward from the mast to accommodate both an aft mast mount on most windfoil boards and to lift the extra weight of the rig.

The geometry is definitely very different. I personally wouldn't waste the time.

If you want to wing then wing.

Frankenfoil (board as well as foil) setups can work, but they require more work and strain. And you can never be sure that your lack of success is the setup or just that you are shitty!

Hey Slick! Don't give up. I learned to Wing on my Starboard 150 Windfoil board. As Tweezy said, you just needed the longer fuse to get the lift further forward because Windfoil/Windsurf boxes are placed further back. I think the fuse is important part here, get a foil with a long (95cm+) fuse if you need to use your windsurf board.

As others have said you can cut your learning curve if you get something made for what you're trying to learn.

If I was learning again but know what I know now, I would get a cheap Windfoil board with tracks so that you can move the foil forward or back. Windfoiling is dying as everyone is Winging so getting a Windfoil board is a good low cost option and because you can already windsurf, Windfoiling is easier to learn than Winging right away. You can probably Windfoil in a day or 2. Learning Winging will take much longer.

Then if you want to learn Winging once you can Windfoil, you can use the same gear to learn Winging for a low cost option, you'll just need a Wing which there are many used ones.

Got some parts from AXIS I'm gonna try and piece together to see if it will work on the 160L Tahe Barge and hope the weight doesn't snap the mast Really just trying it out for those low wind days and then hop back on the fin once it picks up.. But, I'm sure that's how it all started with you guys too

Unfortunately and as it used to be in windsurfing for masts, tracks and bases, there are no standards apart from the twin box for the foil mast. So you can’t usually exchange masts, foils and fuselages. Maybe Trump can make that happen, he’s a strong supporter of mono culture

Axis did make a windfoil fuselage at some point.

This guy is selling a hover glide Infinity 76 setup which is what a lot of us wind foilers started with. He's also got a compatible board although a Wizard would probably be easier to learn on than the freestyle 115
