Road is now PAVED from Port Renfrew to Lake Cowichan

Post by thankgodiatepastafobreaky »

I just took the logging road from Port Renfrew to Lake Cowichan and it is paved! Yes the first half from Renfrew to about the half way point is some roughish pavement (paved but with pebbles) and there is a section in the middle where there are a couple of switchbacks that is still gravel (about 5 km at most) and the remainder on the north end is a beautiful ribbon of black! I took it on a motorcycle and it was FUN!!! :D This is now a nice alternate route to Cowichan if you live out here in these parts as I do (Otter Point).

Hey thankgodiatepasta just so I get this...it is paved all the way into Lake Cowichan. I often go that route from Duncan to go surfing....I didn't just say surfing in this forum did I  ....and I generally stop taking it when it gets to be too muddy. That would be awesome if just that canyon section into the switchbacks was gravel and everything else was paved!

Thanks for the update!

nice! Probably shouldn't be that happy about the forests being paved and all....but hey it will sure make the drive A LOT better.

take note your new van might have a little higher centre of gravity than you're used to..

What does that mean Dave? Other than the obvious...the center of gravity is higher. Am I missing something related to the back road?

Keep the rubber side down even if the steering wheel IS on the opposite site from normal?

Law, is yours a standard? Was it hard to get used to shifting with the left hand?

If the sports bikes discover this the ambulances will have an even longer round trip.....
