As you may have noticed the Island View Beach webcam has been down since Friday Oct 26. Kendra has moved out and the webcam has been shutdown temporarily. The next tenant Nicole is happy to keep the webcam going. Thank you to Kendra for making this happen
But there will be some down time while the internet gets turned back on. I don't have a estimate for when this will be but hopefully in a week or so.
thanks

Update: hoping to have the IV cam back by the end of next week ~ Nov 24 or so. They are just moving in now and getting internet back up.

Update: the power adapter for the webcam has gone missing, so until it is found the webcam will be down. Sorry. I went to try and get it going this afternoon with no luck
Hopefully next week some time when I have some free time...

Busy day today. Out to Gordons to swap out the zoom camera so I can use it at Island View (we don't need the zooming at IV but it has an auto iris making it better in low light). Then head to IV with the zoom cam and the new adapter, only to find that something has chewed through the cable near the tree...argh. So anyway, the IV cam is back up and is temporarily duct taped to their deck railing using a short cable. Thanks to Matt and Nicole the new webcam hosts!!!.
I have to get the 200ft cable spliced before it can go back in the tree. Hopefully I'll do that in the next couple of weeks. The view from the tree is better then the deck, but at least it is working now. This webcam took a lot of effort to get going again, but at least it is up and hopefully working tomorrow for big Sunday.
So the IV cam is now a zoomable cam, but there is no need to zoom out (maybe I shouldn't even show the controls?). The Gordons cam is a fixed zoom, I'll swap again in April.

Thanks Dave for all your work; we need to raise enough money to hire a tech to do this stuff!

Thanks guys! It's always great to get feedback and to see that the work is appreciated.
It looks like the picture quality is improved in the low light so I'm glad I swapped cams with the Gordons one. I'm also glad that it held position all day since I duct taped it to a wet deck.
Thanks to an idea from Morewind, I'm going to start a webcam appreciation thread. We seem to take the webcams for granted. I think the lack of posts on this thread kind of show this. It would be nice if more people thanked those involved with the webcams, maybe by sending thank you cards to the webcam hosts and helpers.

I finally moved the IV cam back to the tree today. Thanks to Murray at ASL for spicing together the 200ft cable and making a power supply. I wrapped the cable in garden hose (not easy!) and dug a trench to the tree, so hopefully nothing will chew through it this time.
Then after that I went out to Gordons to fix the cable in the crawl space (also not fun). So it should be back online now. The zoom cam is back at Gordons now too.
Thanks to Eastside for getting the Pipers cam pointed at the water again. Hopefully all webcams are working now for a while, although the future of the CB cam is uncertain.
