Beginner Buggy

So just to get a sense of the level of interest:

I would purchase a trailer frame and construct it, fill it with donated and lent beginner goodies, slap a lock on it and find a spot to leave it where anyone of the "team" could pick it up and drag it to Willows for drop in lessons etc.. I get the sense that masts, fins, downhauls and sails would not be much of an issue, booms/suits certainly and boards maybe (we have two 120 & 130L boards). A kayak and some ropes we have access to already.

=Would someone with woodwork or welding experience/tools help me put it together on a weekend? I'd be glad to get some input on the design front too tho I have some thoughts.
=Has anyone got some great ideas for revenue/finance of this adventure? I am willing to put up the cash but would like to get some of it back.... User fees of any sort might turn people off....at least on the first go around

Enthusiastic, anyone :?: :D

I think this is a great idea! I'd love to see more people being introduced to the sport, especially young people  Perhaps the lessons could be done by donation, with a suggested donation of $10 or whatever?

The BWD website has some money in the bank, so unless people are against it, I could put some money towards this for materials...say $400?

Seems like raffling off a KA sail worked pretty well in the past for site revenue Kus. If we only knew someone with a KA connection...

My 15 year old kid would take advantage of this. I can chip in $100 to the bwd fund to pass through to this. It's critical we get more young people and learners involved.

Start Board

Hi All,

My Starboard Start rig is for sale at the bargain price of $750 for the whole works, ready to go. This includes a very nice mostly clear 5.0 sail. The sail sleeve is open weave which allows the water to run out when uphauling. A skinny light weight three piece mast and base, a boom with starboard and port indicated in red and blue, a brand new haul up cord, and the monster stable Start Board with soft decking which would easily carry two sailors, like Dad and child, or more. The whole things is in very good shape. I'd even consider throwing in my (used once) good quality wet suit, ladies size 12.

thx for the replies. Some great ideas and offers but not yet sold on the interest level....perhaps this will be generated rather than having people reviewing this thread :P

I guess I can give some ideas of what I was hoping for and maybe someone has some of the following:

a 8x4 or 5' old, solid (tent) trailer frame, 1/2 decent tires $300
Paint, weld, bolt supports/angle irons as needed $50
bolt on 3/4 ply and frame walls from metal studs or 2x2, $120
sheet with either fibreglass reinforced plastic sheeting or 1/2" ply with metal roofing, stainless/galvanized hardware, alu angle corners, hinges, caulk $350
2 small crank-opening old camper windows for ventilation, wrecker, $40
PVC racks w/ steel pipe reinforcement & foam padding, steel roof rack, both removable $120
Hooks, bins, tie downs $40
Insurance $60
Airbrush BWD logos on 3 sides - free from a local artist :?:

$1080 but I usually underestimate with my stuck in the 80's mind what things will cost.

At this time I am also investigating modifying an existing small camper trailer by having a loading opening....this may then have the advantage of cupboards etc. and a working fridge

Gear: donated or really cheap, as in 50% of used market value

As far as KA sails, yes, we could do an auction for cost, plus going to the buggy. How about a brand new 2006 5.3 Kaos bombproof Wavesail that I caught Dave cranking on in Oregon two years ago :?: For reasons of not attracting the paparazzi as well as using proper wave kit he uses a different quiver there  u should really get the helmet back on those days tho Dave

hmm, after considering all things for a bit here I think the sticking point is where to keep the trailer as nobody will want to store such a thing, right :?: :?: I could for a while but don't wanna chase people for their turn, they don't have a hitch, the list goes on.....

So perhaps a full size van would be the better idea, nothing to build, it doesn't need to run particularly well as it will likely not move much, a couple k's every other week to not have the residents too pissed off. How about this one, runs on propane too  Insure minimally and we locate it on Fred's back 40 for the winter or use it as the CB wagon 8)
