I love reading about the lightkeepers, what a crazy job. Wish I could visit some of those places. Recommend "Keepers of the Light" and "Lights of the Inside Passage" both by Donald Graham for anyone who wants to read more about life on the rocks.

If you want to learn about how hard the Lights can be, look for "Keepers of the Light" and "Lights of the Inside Passage"- by Don Graham. Definitive, enthralling histories of lightkeeping in BC. In any second hand bookstore, library or on the ferries. Don was a 1st class guy.

Two old friends of mine were light keepers for years before returning to school. While at UVic they lived aboard a Herreshof H26 at West Bay Marina - anyone who knowns those little boats will know this was a study in spartan hardship in itself. They sailed the boat to the north coast and Haida Gwaii almost every year - it had no motor if I recall, he sculled using a sweep oar over the stern when there was no wind.

They ended up moving to Quesnel though, so perhaps life on and beside the sea got too much!

haha clearly tempy didn't bother to read any of the thread past the first post before replying; he mirrored my post! Either I read his mind, or him mine!
