Windfest 2010...

Having just moved to Victoria in June I still don't know most of the BWD folks face to face. I'll be camped at the north end of the windsurfer zone, just off the beach and have a big white Ocean Rodeo flag flying.
If you are walking by there drop by for a bevy or snack!...

I'm heading up today (Wednesday) so may get a chance to meet you. As I learned at an early age (and my wife likes to point out). " A man makes his own wind".
If it becomes too much much of a gong show, I may head on to the Walbran,

If the hordes that I've been told about actually descend on Nithnat for Windfest I was planning to stay off the water and hang out. I've had many great days riding there this summer so I wasn't going to fight the crowds. I'm keen to see the 2011 gear and kick back.
So far the weather and temp gradient I'm looking at seem fine for wind at Nihtnat, but either way I'll be happy.

Hope you like to play cribbage Vik - perhaps scrabble as well? Will bring both and perhaps we can get a good game going with whomever else wants to join. Pre-post kiting of course if the winds allow.

Sounds good!...
Best get the game in the AM. I may have too many beers by the evening to provide a worthy challenge...

Kus, why do you think there won't be any wind? With a 8C temp difference between Tofino and Port Alberini, it should be nuking. The
Nitinat forecast said no wind last weekend, but
these guys said it was great, 20+ both days?

A North or easterly gradient is usually not great for Nitinat. It may blow, but likely not very hard.

You quoted me in that link and that was a comment about a weekend in June. However, I was there last Saturday and rode my 8m fully powered [I'm ~170lbs] so the wind was fine.

...THE RESULT WILL BE NORTHERLY OFFSHORE FLOW THROUGH THE INLAND WATERS
AND OUTER COASTAL WATERS...WITH SCA WINDS LIKELY FOR PUGET SOUND ON
FRIDAY. NORTHERLY GRADIENTS WILL BE WEAKEN ON SATURDAY FOR THE SOUND.
EASTERLY OFFSHORE FLOW THROUGH THE STRAIT AND NEAR SHORE COASTAL
WATERS WILL BEGIN IN EARNEST FRIDAY MORNING...WITH SCA WINDS LIKELY
IN THE EAST ENTRANCE...PEAKING AROUND 18Z FRIDAY AND SATURDAY...
Onshore flow (and a mackin' fogbank) is what you want to really get the Nitinat winds amped. But hopefully the temp gradient creates enough pressure to overcome some of these things for the weekend.

I just used my crystal ball and it showed minimal wind action for the weekend but sweet rocking-high temps that led to minimal kiting and windsurfing but maximum bikini-age at nitinat.
