Possible New location to sail

In Tahsis good set up for thermal action with locals saying the wind picks up around 3pm and stays till 7 or 8 in the summer. Had a little evening sail today myself, nice open area, warm water (no wetsuit required at this time), not too much boat action (gets somewhat busy in mid to late august). The only downfall so far is the launch landing pad. Had to use the boat launch area today, but will scout for more areas. There are a few beaches heading out on the inlet, but need boat to access them. Thought some of you would like to know. oh yeh, there is campgrounds around as well as hotel accomodations. Quite a pretty area.

wow thats a big roll of the dice to trek way out there for wind but congrats on your score! Ive been out to Tahsis a couple times in the off season but i could tell it was a classic setup. also in the neighborhood, with a similar thermal setup is Muchalat Inlet, i sailed for a week straight one summer long ago when i was in McCurdy camp just west of Gold River. The mill was running full bore back then and as i recall the whitecaps were sort of um foamy? That same summer i also sailed in a cool bay way out near Tatchu Point, north of Nootka Island. I didnt go too far out as i was freaked by some Grey whales poking up way outside. anyway the key to adventuring those new spots is always travelling with your stuff, something way easier with the kite gear im sure. Nice one KD.

heh, was working up there so no big deal to travel as I got paid for it, but yeh, classic setup in my mind for sure, will have to check out that lake as the mill is no longer I think.

hey dale you and i are in the same area - curious if youve ever checked out the launches near Cedar-yellow pt on a SE. The exposure looks about right- it wouldnt have the swell of columbia but we sure could get there fast.
btw- Muchalat Inlet is the ocean, and you would have to worry about getting humped by Luna if you sailed out there these days!

Heh, yeh was listening to a couple of tug boat operators in the pub tonight and they were complain about luna rubbing himself on their tug messing up their pull/push. They were working around esperanza point. That would be quite the experience if luna were to pay you a visit while you are sailing
but major cool at the same time (no biting allowed tho) Just asked a local and Luna has visited here in Tahsis 2 or 3 times!
Am headed to Zebellos next week so will have to check it out over that way as well! Long drives but no crowds!!! hmmm virgin water... coooolllll

Actually I haven't checked out cedar/yellowpoint but would agree it has possibilities. Actually I did stay at one of the places right out by Yellowpoint lodge and there was beach, but I also saw barnicles [smilie=biggun.gif] (death to barnicles). Certainly would be something to check out though.
