Board Building

I'm moving to Victoria, and wondering if anyone is building boards on the Island?

Something I've always wanted to do, and finally have my own place with a garage. Looking for some advice on where to get materials, like foam blocks.

I also remember a few years ago (When I was living in Vancouver) someone was getting rid of a rocker table and vacuum bagging equip. If anyone has these things available let me know.

No idea... but you should join up with the crew in late June and head down to the Oregon coast. Our numbers are looking kind of light this year compared to previous ones, and you can't clean out the Gold Beach DQ with less than 8 guys. Plus, the more bait in the water, the less likely I become a shark biscuit.

Anyone thinking of hitting up the Pistol River Wave Bash? Hoping to be out on the water and around lots.

There's an Oregon Coast thread in the Special Events section of the website that everyone uses to coordinate. Check it out.

Barracuda surf, really helped me out with some surfboard repairs. Quality workmanship and good prices too. They're in the phone book and on Facebook as well

I remember TomS being a good resource for board building advice, though I haven't seen him post for a while.

I used to get very large foam blocks from an outfit over in Delta (Annacis Is if I remember correctly) - they make the 1# density expanded bead polystyrene (EPS) search under insulation foam or check at Home Depot as that's their product. Another place in New West has a CNC hot wire for architectural/other that can cut from a blank but I do not know their name. Fiberglass Supply is in Burlington, WA and carries everything and will know more sources.

I know i picked up a big block somewhere in delta before might have been arepsfoam.com/‎, but never ended up doing anything with it, gave it to a buddy, when moving.

Anyplace on the island with foam blocks?

i just got some resin and other stuff from fibreglass supply in washington. even with shipping it was still cheaper than i could get it for around here and it only took a couple days.

Might be worth having a chat with Island Surf Co. in parksville (islandlongboards.com), they bring in surfboard blanks, so their vendors may do blocks as well.
