VANCOUVER ISLAND WINDTALK

Okay, I have four so far, anyone have any other suggestions?
I'm having a hard time finding a) big enough space b) wind and c) people not in the way
I'm not able to make it out to sooke or sidney very easily at this point.

I have found rocky beaches to be a really bad idea (the lines get caught during setup/landing/crashing) I do have an HQ Hydra though, so I can fly it over the water as long as there is a launch/landing spot. Any have any suggestions around lakes?

A) Vic West Park (surrounded by trees and buildings but the wind still blows pretty well when coming in from the south)

B)Clover Point, not on the point, but just up on the grass above it. Careful because this is where the paragliders launch/land.

C)Beacon hill, the big field by the flag post, best after they cut the grass, much harder with it long

D) Royal Roads lower field, but only if the wind is coming in from the south or south south east due to trees.

If its an inflatable fly it close to shore...rocky beaches aren't bad if its in the air but avoid barnacle areas! learn what wind directions are best for the area.
Royal Roads will have funky winds 80%of the time... Clover Point / Dallas rd are your best bet for 180 degree winds from W-S-E
all you need is a steady lite breeze to learn what you need from an inflatable... get in the water and practice body dragging
get up to Nitinat lake and practice a bit before your lessons for flying a bigger kite!

Would love to take your advice but it's not a sealed kite, just closed cell. Also no depower and no harness and only two weeks to lessons in hawaii.

I would check out the rep of the school and specific instructor you will be learning with. The term instructor is tossed around fairly loosely in Maui. I don't know the name of the school, but the guys name is Christian and he is Argentine I believe. He teaches right at Naish beach on Naish kites. By far the best instructor I saw teaching there. He is the guy you want if at all possible. He is the only one I would personally recommend. You do not want the girl Verda that works for the same school... seriously get a different instructor if that is the case.

Christian Barcellos is Brazilian and is a great instructor. Paul Franco is the best on Maui but very hard to book. Contact Christian directly through Naish (or call Des Walsh (at Naish) when you get there and ask him for Christian’s contact number). Best to contact Paul Franco through his Facebook page.

Looks like he teaches for HST, I have sent in a request for him for my hawaii dates, two people both suggesting probably means he is at least half-decent

Just finished my lessons with Christian, thanks for the recommendation, he was great. I was up and riding both directions, and slightly upwind, on my second day (4.5 hour days)

Btw, Verda is his GF, just so you know.
