All users of Island View beach ... The future of this Park is NOT secure & we, the users must fight to keep it as a site for recreation NOT just a spot for migratory birds  PLEASE share the information on this link (more to come) ... Island View Beach online CRD response form ... http://www.crd.bc.ca/surveys/Survey.asp ... ceNew=true ... Caution: be careful of what you are agreeing to as you fill out the online form. I like the sound of this (though on pg 57 they say its the lowest priority item)

2. Access and Parking
• ...
• Consider the need for more beach access sites by working cooperatively with key stakeholder groups (e.g. wind and water sports enthusiasts)

I don't htink I'm invited to the party since I'm in N. Saanich, but I'll be going to the engagement session on thursday.
It said something in the document (i'm not going throught the 60 whatever pages again to find it right now) about maintaining the beach access points (including tidying up driftwood) which would be a good one. (I'd push for a gravel path across the field (that wet grass can be a little slick when you're holding down a kite)

Here is a supporting document mentioned in the "Draft Interim Park Management Plan" http://www.crd.bc.ca/parks/islandview/d ... Append.pdf Consider Page #55 A14 "To the extent possible, remove the shoreline protection dike in Island View Beach Regional Park to restore natural rates of wind-transported sand movement to the backshore, allow storm surges and coastal flooding and facilitate natural recovery of upland ecosystems." https://docs.google.com/file/d/1Msumect ... sp=sharing Picture of park flooded in the 1950's: https://docs.google.com/file/d/1Msumect ... r=10&w=771

on-line survey ends Friday ... Next community meeting Wed. Oct. 9 @ Mitchell's farm store I.V. rd. "Hi everyone
The CRD is spending our tax money like water in their efforts to sell their "vision" for Island View Beach. For most people the plan is incomprehensible, and for those who have been able to sort the wheat from the mountains of chaff the vision is scary.

As you will recall there was a meeting at Central Saanich last Monday evening about Island View Beach. Those of us who had been able to attend that meeting got together afterwards, and decided the only way to move forward was to hold our own public meetings.

I've met with Tom and Vern Michell and we've set up a community meeting for this coming Tuesday at 6pm to discuss the options and agree on a plan of action. This is very important to us as a community because the CRD staff plans will have a major and irreversible impact on the park and on our lives, if they get their way. Please try to make it to the meeting so you give your input.' Jason Austin

https://www.facebook.com/friendsofislandviewbeach/info Please read the I.V. draft plan & the Cordova Shore Strategy (links on CRD page) to learn about the possible demise of OUR park ... Personally I don't want change, I just want this park to remain as it is. If YOU have a concern please get involved.
Friends of Island View Beach (Facebook)
Concerned over the CRD's draft plan for Island View Beach we have started this group to communicate our concerns & actions. This ambiguous plan consistently refers to the Cordova Shore Strategy which seems to NOT SUPPORT the park as we see it now.
