Looking for a Vacation Spot

Where there is flat water for Melodie to kite safely, but nearby access to proper waves for surfing and wave kiting. Preferably affordable and in Central or South America so we can use Alaska points. February-March time frame. I know I'm asking for a lot. Any ideas?

I thought La Ventana was a great place to learn kiting. Certainly safe with lots of beach to wash up on downwind. Not much for waves except on the windier days but not perfectly flat either but great when the wind is coming up each day. Get her out first then as it builds it's your turn. easy to get to and affordable too.

That's the backup plan I think but I really want some real surf nearby for no wind days.

Thought so. But aren't the surf spots on the west coast of Baja close enough?

only place I can think of with wind, waves, and flat in the Americas is maui, but there goes affordable.

Peru has a lot of flat, and waves. Not sure how close together they always are though.

Come join us in Laventana March 13-24. Have rental jeep, will drive to surf!

Peru seems to have lots of spots that are what I am looking for and only 30,000 Alaska Points return. The only major bummer is 18-24 hours worth of Travel to get there with connections and whatnot, and only on Delta and American which means mego-buckos to bring gear... hmmm

Too much $$$ to go there these days.

But now I've gone and read about stingray attacks in both the Caribbean and Peru... that doesn't sound awesome!

Dominican sounds like it could be it. I've not been, but from what I've heard....flat water out front, waves not far. And as zoo'ed out as it may be, sounds like you can just go a little ways away and make your own fun.

I suspect Cuba is much the same.

And there's always Maui. My Dec 2014 trip was epic....surf in am, kite in pm. Lots of kiters, but seemed to be enough room for everyone. Lots of flat water, lots of waves. As for affordable....suspect you could get cheap condo deals in Feb, less so in Spring Break time March though. But even in peak xmas time, it was cheaper than Tofino!

We do Maui pretty dirt bag style and it used to be great post-recession but things have really crept up since then and it's not cheap any more (at least by my definition). If prices were at par it's still not bad if you can find accommodation for $100/day, but add in the exchange and it starts to bite. But the main deterrent from Maui is that it would be 50,000-70,000 points return per person, and Peru is 30,000 return per person, more exotic and cheaper once you are there.

only 30,000 to Peru? That's completely wacky and a no brainer. Peru has EPIC point breaks for surfing and kitesurfing.
