I am in for the demo as well, Marty!

Marty, any comment about whether there is anything like the 'fighter jet' ability to point what seems like damn near straight upwind?
Not quite as far as the kite foil, but still much more than any other windsurf craft. I could not really get it to roll much because of the big wing and board geometry. That is where the kite kills it, but Peter said he can get a slight roll on it once he had more practice.

Hey,
I am down to 4.2, 4.8 and 5.3 sails....likely all you would need with this:

I find it a little embarrassing that the actor mispronounces the product name a few times. I'm pretty sure it's pronounced "Nay-sh" not "Nash".

Wonder what the learning curve is like.

haha
I have heard talk of bwd's legendary understated humour....not bad.
I talked to some guys in the Gorge last year who were learning foil windsurfing at the time. Jibes looked really sketchy and difficult. But those guys were on homemade foils. I also just saw a Facebook post of Dale Cook jibing a foil windsurfer no problem....but he's not good to measure against.
Hopefully the Naish windsurf foils are a better design, from their testing and more user friendly. I don't think they would sell something that is too hard to sail.
The light wind potential is huge. Instead of kiting. Which didn't go well for me. At the Gorge, when I was on 6.0M/115L Fanatic Freewave the foilers were on 4.5M, and they were planing way easier/quicker than I was.
I'll probably get one. Could rip Hornby in 10 knots and 5.3M. But I bet they are gonna be costly.

Maybe just give kiting more than 6 hours of your time like you did learning windsurfing and save your money.

Yeah - LP foils running 2K USD, but the real kicker is replacement cost of the broken bits after a reef ding or two! Still, RN knows his stuff and is a great marketer and product developer, so maybe not as painful a learning curve as we saw down at HR last year??

I get that I would like kiting and didn't give it a chance. But those 6 hrs of kiting last May and getting hurt took away three weeks of prime windsurfing time. And my time to sail is gonna be limited.
Funny how I ask for analysis of option A and you direct me to do option B, without analyzing option A (pros/cons). You would fail a CPA exam with that approach!! It's like telling a skier they should snowboard when he asks what skis to buy.
I like the foil windsurfing as it looks technical in light winds (we all know sailing 6.0M and big board is boring) and you don't need larger sails.
I can see a foil and board costing $4.5k
The cost of a kite, lines and board is $2.5k
The main savings to a windsurfer is not buying any sails >5.3M. ie the cost of a 5.8M and 6.5M sail, plus a couple of masts >400cm (don't need a 430 and 460) and not buying a bigger boom is probably $2k savings?
We'll see.

I like the idea of a wsurf foil. I could use it in Coles Bay in the 8-15kt aft south winds. I could handle the cost of a foil (maybe), but I don't want to get/pack around a dedicated big wsurf board. I've seen a few inflatable board options that seem interesting. Does the board do much once you are up on the foil?

i have read that the board matters only in that you just need to be able to uphaul it, since waterstarting is not really possible. not because of the foil but because you use such a small rig.
