You would need to be kiting alone with a Lilly because it can't be flown manually, it simply follows the kiter with the transponder.

Hey frank, I fly a dji phantom 3 and had it stable in 25 knots of wind. I was hoping to go up to nitinat with it this weekend but now with the weather might only go Monday.

At Coast Mountain Sports they have some amazing deals on Polyethylene kayaks. Much cheaper and then that way you can get into a new one. Pretty amazing boats, perform almost just as well as fiberglass and you don't have to worry about scratching them.

Hey Kev, Release the emergency sytem!!! Bar none!!! Really, this situation should have never taken place. The instructor shouldn't have had the student hooked in if they were on the beach. Comfort with the kite needs to be evident before they start hooking in. Experienced kiters will know to quickly...

Hey Kevin, It may not have been the case for you but in regards to your scenario, there is another right of way rule to keep in mind: "Kiters on the water must give way to kiters entering and exiting the beach" This is due to the fact that a riding kiter has much more mobility than a walki...

Good to see that discussion has been sparked (intention of the original post). JL, the video links are great, I'll be using those. Lastly, I just hope that people go out and practice rigging the lines in this manner. I'm sure people will see that (in terms of safety) it is much more logical. Should ...

Hey AC and Martin, Valid comments. I spent some time managing a school in Cabarete and we were yellow flagged for a while by the IKO because we had an instructor who was accidently teaching his students the same. However, the instructor was my responsibility and ever since have tried to reiterate th...

I understand and I too have argued the point as well but have come to realize that, unless it is 100% necessary, it is just not worth the risk. Too often, accidents happen during the launching and landing of kites. When I asked my examiner the same, he replied: "If there is enough room to strin...

RIGGING LINES PROPERLY

As an instructor, I just wanted to mention to people on this page an issue with the way some of us are rigging our lines. I am not trying to come down on any one person here, please understand that I'm just trying to make the beaches in our area a safer place. Perhaps, it has been stated on the site...

Looking for Rental

My husband and I are both kiteboarders and we are moving back to Victoria from Québec in August and are currently looking at rentals in Victoria. Here is why I need your help, we have 2 large dogs and 2 cats that are, of course, house-trained, one thing is for sure is that we do not want to part wit...
