Actually, I think I'll stick a small laminated photograph of a poodle on all of my sails to dredge up the necessary level of hate to loop.

Yep, Dan,

That's true; Long haired Chihuahuas are pure love. Nothing hateful there. By the way, I don't actually hate poodles. I just love to hate them. All you poodle owners out there let your poodles' fur grow! None of this froofroo trim here fluff ball there nonsense. Poodles can't actually dig that style. They need a bit of 'tude. A hint of hate. A bit of self respect!

Devo's cover of Hendrix's "Are You Experienced?" has been good for me. Watching Josh Stone throwing Forwards in the Imax movie EXTREME made me want to try. He always lands and sails away with speed. No stop in the action. I noticed that he keeps his body well away from his kit during the loop. That is, he really hangs out to windward so his head is upwind of everything that's rotating. While his body is compressed at the centre of rotation his head and shoulders are away from the board and sail. He kept his arms really straight and his head out, not curled or tucked in as I expected. I guess it also enhanced the sheeting in part, forcing commitment to a really hard sheeting. It looked like a good approach. You don't want to be damaging your boom grip with a lot of tooth impressions. It would be nice if that film were to come back so we could get some lessons from such a smooth looper. Dunkerbeck style loops,on the other hand, look pretty scary. He seems to go over like a robot. I can't imagine what he's thinking.
