Work being done on the Macauley Outfall

Post by Cindy »

Hey everyone
You might have missed this in the paper, but the CRD will be doing some work on the Macauley Outfall.

According to the CRD:
"During the repair, they need to turn off the big outfall and discharge through the shorter bypass outfall (from 11pm Wed. to approx. 6am Thurs.). There is potential for the wastewater plume to linger near shore for a day or two after the bypass event at levels potentially high enough to make people sick if they were to swim in the water. "

They are posting up signs on all beach access points on Wednesday.

"They will be monitoring for bacteria at various points along the shoreline from Saxe Point to near the breakwater daily, before and after the bypass work. Once all bacteria levels at all stations are below 200 CFU/100mL (the level set to protect human health), the beach postings will be removed."

Since the water does slosh around a bit, you might want to hope for SE and Island View winds for Thursday/Friday. :D

If you have questions, call the CRD and ask for Wastewater Treatment. Be nice...they are just doing their jobs.

Cheers
Cindy
