Nitinat heat wave

Post by kitedog »

Looks like this weeks heat wave could shut down Nitinat ( forecast call for NE 7kmh ) Is that typical when it actually gets too hot ? Wondering before heading over from da mainland.

I'm not an expert at predicting the weather there by any means, but keep an eye on the temperature in coloose, and tofino, if duncan, port alberni, are hotter than the coastal places, it can still work.

Upcoming heat wave

Post by Sandy Beach »

With the surface temperature map that Rob uses, there is usually some blue and green areas indicating cooler air. Looking at this upcoming week, and long weekend on the map, the entire region (including the coast) lights up red/orange and appears to be on fire. My temperature rises just looking at it.
We are delaying our trip to Hood River, Oregon and coast due to the upcoming heat wave, as, it may be too hot to blow, and it's sweltering there in an outflow, as is Nitinat and Port Alberni. China Creek for us, since, it's great for the family for SUP ing, swimming, biking, hiking and will be a bonus if the wind does materialize. Close to home to water the veggie garden :)

any further predictions out there?? Randy hasn't posted in over a month... the weather network predicts really hot inland but only 20s feeling like 24s in Tofino... upper 30s in Port Alberni

I'd like to think it'll blow with a westerly inflow in the afternoon.. so morning outflow turning to inflow later in the day?

long beach is forecast to have WNW in the afternoon / early evenings.

heat wave temp differences

Post by Sandy Beach »

KUS wrote:looks to be back on by Friday and for the weekend
Yes, looks like temp differences (between Tofino and Port Alberni) of 15 degrees today, 14 on Sat, 13 on Sunday and 14 degrees on Monday.
This may mean wind at Nitinat and (hopefully) China Creek.

Enjoy the August long weekend!!:)

Cranking at Nitinat right now, unfortunately flat at PA. I'd like to get to somewhere, anywhere, with wind this weekend, and don't want to deal with the expected traffic jams at Lake Cowichan. Anyone have any good ideas (in addition to taking the South Shore main to miss Youbou)?

Wind

Post by jellyfish »

Piper's has been awesome this week!
No crowds, no logging roads😀
Better waves than the other alternatives.
Managed two out of the five days the wind machine was cranking😀

Pipers & S. Salish Sea

Post by Cam »

Prior to the fire sky Pipers, Jericho and much of the S. Salish have been going off beautifully,

Even on Windfest weekend both coasts of the S. Salish looked super sweet. I hope it keeps happening.
