Details Nice Friday Flatwater session. Arrived to GregCan and H-Rock rigging up, The Pope out on the water ripping and Tweezer having a nap in his SuperManVan. It looked GREAT, maybe 13-15kts and flat water so I rigged the 4.5m Sailworks Flyer and pulled out my brand new board, The Slingshot Wizard 130!! At 188 x 78cms it's pretty short and wide. 26cms shorter and 5 cms narrower than my Goya Airbolt 135. Although the Wizard feels much wider in the tail giving me better leverage over the sail as I can hike out farther and sheet in more. Feels more like my Starboard Freeride 150. I left the 1263cm2 foil on as this was my first session on the new board and didn't want to change too many things at once. The shorter length caused the nose to dive like a submarine for me right off the bat while schlogging out to the wind. It was much tougher to tack with the nose submerging easily. I was able to jibe it immediately which left good. I had set the foil at "4" in the box which was quite far forward especially since the double A box is quite short. It's only 10" long where the Airbolt is 14" long. I will try moving the foil back in the box for my next session. For the first session it really impressed me. I really enjoyed the wide tail being able to move my back foot all over and not upsetting the balance and being able to hike out further also felt natural from my previous Starboard stance. Okay, back to the session... it was so much fun!! I was underpowered on the 4.5m for the first 30 mins but the smaller sail made it easier to focus on the board and how it felt and reacted to my foot placement and inputs from pumping etc. It definitely takes a little bit more wind to get foiling than the airbolt but not much maybe 1-2kts. After 40 mins the wind died a bit down to 10kts so I came in and rigged up the 6.0m Sailworks Flyer with 90% power. Headed back out and it was perfect as the wind had picked up to 10-13kts and was very steady. Danno showed up on his pencil-wide board making it look easy and the rest also came back out after heading in for the lull. I headed waaaay over towards Jemmy Jones on one reach and the board and foil really sailed themselves, I was just a passenger with only 1 hand on the boom for most of the way. It was warm enough for no gloves but hands did get cold at the end. I came back over to Willows and mowed the lawn for awhile trying to push the speed and get a feel for the new board in the jibes. I also have the 114 Slingshot Wizard which I'll try out when there is more wind and also hope it works for Winging. Wind dies after almost 2 hours and 40+kms just as ULR came out to play unfortunately. We all had a good chat in the parking lot except for The Pope and H-Rock as they apparently had chores to get done. I'm pretty excited to try out the new board with my smaller foils like the 950cm2 and 700cm2 to get some speed back which I've been missing witht he 1263cm2 easy-peasy foil. BOBSON OUT!!
