It was as though a toddler had control of the off/on switch for the wind today. A squall would rip through, then almost no wind for 20 minutes and I just bobbed around and waited for the next squall. Repeat. About an hour into the session the wind finally became a bit more steady. When gybing in bigger waves I sometimes struggle to find the sweet spot between: 1) being too high on the mast and breaching as I come down the wave, and 2) being too low on the mast and touching down or nose diving. Decided to chance it and joined the parking lot crowd. Eventually a few puffs suckered most of us out onto the water. Very light, and lots of pump effort if you came off foil which i did on a couple turns running out of gas. Managed a 1/2 hr in the sun. Managed to confuse Tweezer by claiming my wing was 5.3m when it's really 5.5 (like he thought). Good times

Another fantastic light wind day for my big gear set-up. Ultra-light first session and a better powered 2nd session. Great to be out with so many elite foilers to watch and try to copy. The crowds of wind-powered sailors made it a bit crowded at times, but the stoke was so high and still so much fun in the sun. Great vibe, even when windless and waiting for wind to show up. What a fantastic foil day with banter and brews to finish up.

Arrived early at 10am to 5-7kts with a bit more out by 1st yellow marker. I knew the wind was coming so rigged up the board with easy foil and 6.0m Sailworks Flyer. No one else there so headed out and was up on the foil pretty quick. Quite a long day with lots of other doods showing up. 7am dawn patrol light wind session. Lighter than it initially felt and I came in pretty quick to swap the 880 for the 1080. Fortunately I didn't need to swap the 5.5 for the 7, but I could only get up when there was a gust. Good size waves and light winds meant for tricky take offs, and difficult for gybe practice. Cold but beautiful morning at CP. Bobson and Hrock out foiling so I thought I would give it a try. DW board was the right choice as there was a little floating around waiting for gusts. @ULR because I know this is an area or interest for you.. I tried my palmless mitts with thin gardening gloves underneath, worked well, a little forearm burn, but my hands stayed warm.

Another sloggy light wind session - focused on practicing toeside riding. I've been able to gybe my board/sail around for a few months now - it's the toeside riding that gets me every time. Gradually I've been able to extend my toeside runs, and I'm trying to force myself to get good on both sides. It was like finding a $20 in my wing bag pocket. Pleasant surprise! Light winds, but workable and was foiling before the marker. Cold at the start, but warmed up nicely with the sunshine. It was so cool to repeatedly be crossing runs with Bobson and RDog brought summery vibes. Nice winds between the marker and the yellow buoy. TnT came out near the end when the winds were reducing. Looking forward to more on Sunday!

Arrived at 10:30 to 6-8kts but had stopped at Timmy's for breaky, so went back into the ManVan and ate breaky. 30 mins later H-Rock arrived and we chatted about the beautiful view and where was everyone as it was 6-10kts and gusts looking a bit stronger so rigged a fat 6.0m Sailworks Flyer and headed out. I slept in and missed the sweet early winds and was left in a morning slog. Danno OSR'd some afternoon winds and I rushed over to get a bit of lift. GregCan and Dan were already on the water with their sleek, narrow, boards. I joined them in my fat, blow-up board and got lucky with a nice gust that got me up. Got some play near Clover and played kelp and flotsam avoidance. Glad to have gotten my wind hit after missing out earlier.

Awkward. The best part was my pre-session Falafel pita. I put away the big stuff (5.3/115) and opt for medium gear (92/4.5) as the wind ramped up while I was rigging. Enough south in the wind to make it unsettled over the bank (gusty and shifty). Wind wave angle had you hammering your way out then wind wave angle was too tight on the way in to do anything meaningful. Tweezer beat me out there for the morning session. He came in and told me it was pretty windy, but i thought it would die within the hour, so stayed with the 5M and bigger 1225 foil. Turns out he was right - it was near 30kts off the point.

Was going to pass on this morning but kept looking at the cam and low and behold it's really windy around by 9:30. Got there and quickly rigged the 4m, Tuna just coming in to get his 3.5! Had a sunny nice session for about 1/2hr then wind shifted N and just died all on one reach. Unfortunately I was outside a couple hundred meters from the point and downwind. Arrived to lots of wind, Twizz and TunaCan out playing a little follow the leader. I would have rigged smaller if I had it but smallest I have is the 4.5m so flattened it out. Went out for 15 mins in 25+kts and the 4.5m was getting ripped from my hands so I came in and tried to flatten in a bit more and pick up my 'new to me' 90 litre KT WingDrifter in hopes of Winging soon. Strong NW, which for Comox means only Singing Sands area available- which is good/bad for me.
Good is a relatively easy angled shore launch; bad it is full strength all down the straight- so the swell really builds quickly.
I'm always a bit intimidated there, so stayed close to shore.
After a half hour start to feel more comfortable, and thinking I'm Joe Cool again- until winger Tony comes along and makes me look like a rank beginner ( not hard to do).

OG Rule #11 dawn patrol short session. The wind looked iffy, but Alex and I took a shot and got lucky. Light winds, but just enough power to not have to struggle too much using the 7m. The pump of the 1080 is super helpful on days like this, which reminds me of Step 9 of gybe rehab: use the right gear. I only got onto high aspect gear recently when I bought BWD's 220 HA stab. Thanks to Bobson's OSR, I left my football fest for foiling possibilities. Bobson was consistently up despite it feeling marginal at the ramp. I rigged my 6m wing and continued on with my blow-up board practice. Not the best weapon in the light winds due to the inflatable's stickiness. But it lifted pretty well and jibed nicely in the light winds. Lots of sail traffic but I managed to not hit anything except a crabtrap buoy. Sunshine foiling!

Super fun until the wind died. Variable winds and big waves - I felt like I was riding them in a way that I haven't before. The 5.5 seemed to be perfect middle ground; at times I was overpowered and at times it took me a while to get on foil. Continued glacial progression on the gybes. I'm more comfortable going into gybes with a lot more speed now, which of course is essential. In fact it's Step 7 in the gybe rehab handbook.

Arrived at Noon as I saw Discovery bump up a bit. Thinking I was just being hopeful, arrived to 6-12kts. I wasn't super positive as there looked like more 6 than 12 so I put on the big 1700cm2 front foil and rigged the 6.0m Sailworks Flyer super fat! Got out and was on the foil before the first marker, forgetting to start my GPS but remembered soon after. Awesome to have enough wind to use the 880 front wing. Birthday boy Alex getting some solid controlled foils today! I was focused on really trying to engage with the waves and also the gybe rehab of course. A bit more speedy today. For months the turn radius of my gybe attempts was too tight.
