Lighter winds at the top of the session. Got stuck out there a few times in softer moments. And just when i thought it was best to head in, everything turned on. Speed testing the 850 with a 5m. Good (not great) conditions. Also hesitating. Getting busy out there. Keep your head up ;) keep working on the tacks.

A little on the chilly side but great steady, flat conditions, mostly filled in almost to the beach. A gybetorium! I made it round the corner almost every time, got sheeted in toeside a few times, once went 5 seconds or more before crashing. Getting close again, multiple days helps. Fun chatter on the beach. Ramping up when I left, and last half 4.0 would have worked.

Arrived early to light wind and very flat water. Waited for 20 mins until The Pope arrived and I rigged 5.0m KT Air and he rigged his 5.5m. Sir Lance-a-lot arrived just as we were rigging. I really wanted to sort out my jibes because falling in, getting on the board and getting going again is very tiring. Better today but still need to improve. Making 85% of my jibes but touching down on each one. Lots of doods kept showing up, Tugboat, Danno, H-Rock, GregCan, MF4 and others especially Mr. Keen out Winging ... (more)

Awesome session. I opted to go early for the lighter winds and flatter water so that I could continue to sort out the nuances of the new board. Launched with Bobson around 11am, and soon joined by Lance, Morley and Ang. Game changer day -- now feeling great about the 75L.

After missing the best wind at Parksville bay I decided to check on the home break back at SP. Wind was surprisingly still on and a better direction than earlier. The waves looked great so I convinced myself to rig big and get back on the water. So glad I did. The waves were so fun. Guaranteed wave rides after every trip out through the break. The waves are a much better angle to the wind for riding than P-ville bay. And what a sesion saver the new 5.5 is. The new 30cm weed fin is a big help as well!

Arrived a bit later, went out on 4M and found I was overpowered but didn't want to waste time going in . Then it ramped up even more so went in and got the 3M. The swell off the point had really smoothed out by then with some super fun lined up rides . Lots of stoke even saw the rare winging Bobson . Waves got even better after most people left for dinner ,rode to near sunset couple wingers still left out right to the end.

Second session, damned uncomfortable wetsuit! Nicely powered 4.0 except for one lull, got aroiund the corner on several gybes, not quite enough speed and stalled, stayed dry on two with foot switch after drop. Closer! My McGyver wing harness line failed, back to drawing board or online shop. Very cool to watch long flagged out rides, the swell looked amazing! Came off as it ramped up to 3 m.

Stopped by Lagoon on the way to Ross and was greated by a super steady SE, felt like a summer thermal that was gradualluy building. NLWTFW so rigged up and foiled right off the beach. On outside, of course it died. Floated around on fitful puffs, then the NW filled in and foiled until it got too spicy for the 5. Made it around a couple of jibes stalling to a taxi.

Hate. Angry late afternoon session with more wind and higher tide. Rigged smaller gear, but it was a punishing session with huge gusts and lulls and lots of wind chop. Close encounter with a sea lion breaching ' luckily they were about six feet away! Caught a few rides and called it day. Warm solar shower was the best part of the session! Jesse's pizza oven (and pizza) was a big hit for hot beachside apes!

Early bird. Up at 5 am and got rock star parking at Incinerator Rock for the main event! Treated to moonlight over the ocean waves. Ozy gave me a runners toe condom (to protect a sore toe). Morning rest in the van with the melody of ocean waves and morning songs from the birds! Ozy, Dunkinguy and myself found the island dish soap co-op. Jesse hosted an open house in his new van. Double session day. First session was a bit light for my kit at first but got better as wind tamped up. Some nice bomb sets. Fly weight Oz killing it in the light air. Lunch and nap followed by 4.2 small gear hate fest. Wind was super gusty ala The Cape but had some super fun waves on the little gear. So fun sailing with the gang in paradise. Within 10 minutes of arriving the wind was picking up quick. Back out on a sinker with the 850 so I stuck to a 5 m to be safe at first. Immediately had to step down to a 4 m. I could've stepped down to three, but decided to give myself some headroom as wind was on but gusty. Tons of swell. Again, the best sets on the outer wind line shifting towards trial island, amazing.

Did a quick 45min session as had tickets to royals game at 6pm. It was starting to look windy on outside and with a short session with no time to wait and see, it had me going big with the 5.5m and my big foil. Yes it was very windy once out there and everyone was coming out or going in to get on 4 or less, but wasn't going to futz around rerigging so kept everything on and barely ever sheated in. It was getting really good but pulled the plug a little after 5pm. Oh well always tomorrow to make a 3fer!!

More RB awesomeness! I could get very used to this quality of conditions.... Started out on 5m and found it OP'd and quickly switched to my fave 4m. Much better! Sweet swells were back, maybe not quite as good as on Good Friday, but pretty nice! Lots on the water and the first time RB felt crowded as I often found myself on reciprocal tracks with the elite foilers flying at Mach chicken. I will always give up my line for safety, although I guess I should stand on while on a stbd tack. So much fun!

Wow, RB delivered big this evening. Hit the water just before 6 and was completely overpowered on the 4m almost the whole time, didn't want to head in because the forecast didn't have it that windy and I didn't want to miss any of the epicness. Should have had the 3m and would have still been lit. Rides for days on the big steep swell. Got even better between 7-730 with the breeze dropping a bit and the swells lining up even more if that was possible. Need a smaller front foil stat. Figured out the mast to ... (more)

Day 2 on the 75L ML. The first half went great and I felt like I was sorting out the nuances of the new board. For the second half the wind and swell picked up and I was struggling to get to my feet. Big thanks to BWD for coming to check on me during one of my floundering moments. Once I get to my feet I still can't believe how quickly this thing takes off. A 15-20 kn session would be nice to learn the new board ... it looks like RB potentially has that in store for tomorrow. We live in a great place!

It started out great and kept getting better. The wind peaked around 6pm and i was soooooo overpowered on the 3.5, should have had the 2.5. Best swell ive seen yet in Ross Bay. So good, Walked into the liquor store with full wetsuit and booties to get a 6 pack after - some funny looks but if they only know what we just scored!!!!

Unreal power session. Started on the 5m, which was a bad idea. Got basically blown off the water with that. Limped out on the 3M and it was just passable for about 15 mins and then was perfectly powered for the rest of the session. Some very nice swell all the way through the bay. GPS didnt start till mid session, but was trying some speed runs in-between swell rides.

Aaaaand a second session back home! More 700 Nomad goodness. Yep, it's my favourite. Great swell, lots of stoke, so damn fun. Nearly stabbed myself in a 360 gone awry. Note to self: wear your freakin' helmet and impact vest! I was in such a rush I forgot.

Arrived early to light SE, got the Rockstar parking then waited 30 mins and it turned West and I rigged up the small board (Slingshot Wizard 114 - 178cm x 66cm) with the 1700cm2 front foil and 5.0m KT Wing Air. GregCan showed up and wind picked up to 15kts so I headed out. Surprisingly I was able to foil immediately and felt fairly comfy on the small board except gybing was more difficult. It seems like it's going to take a few sessions to get used to the smaller board. I definitely had a difficult time get ... (more)

One of the best Acadia sessions! Launch with Scott and Jason (Tsawwassen crew) at 8AM into massive swell at Acadia and 8C temp! 3 hrs on the SF830 and S215 tail. Nice surf set up with slow start/stall speed yet efficient glide. Happy Easter!

Epic morning wave session in steady W25 for over 2 hrs. Mike (7m+surfboard), me (8m+surfboard) then Bill (7m+foil) beated from Spanish Banks to Acadia which was dominated by wingers. Saw one windsurfer (C36?).
Amazing shoulder high breaking waves between lower Acadia and Dog Beach (marked by the monster floating log) perfect for my favorite wave rides and bottom turns of the year.

Decided against the solo session at SP in 25 knots WNW. Parksville bay was my go to spot in the 80s and 90s and it had been years since sailing here. They really made it awkward for launching with the boardwalk and not much parking right on the edge of the beach like it was back in the day. Oh well. Still a great spot to sail when the tide is in. A few kiters were out and this is definitely a better spot for kiting than windsurfing. Lots of shallow and flat water to play in.
Wind was full on when I rigged ... (more)
