Low winds give us the opportunity to teach our buddies how to windsurf and hone our wacky old school freestyle moves ;)

Lol funny you mention that Jo, I just celebrated my stag this morning having a windsurfing lesson with Kevin care of my brother and groomsman. Unfortunately, I'm working nights the next week, then getting married, then heading off to Puerto Vallarta for my honeymoon! No more windsurfing in September ...

Thanks for the replies, I'll stick it out with the spotty wind on Brennen/Long lake until I can convince the little lady to make a few trips out to Nitinat this year (maybe I'll remember the tent poles this time). Cheers!

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but I'm once again looking for any freshwater launches around Nanaimo with decent sailing. The GF and I gave Brennen lake a whirl while the steady SSE was blowing around Nanaimo. First time in 13 years on a board and I was very glad it was a 250L with a nice big ...

You may find more affordable houses south of Nanaimo. Check areas like Cedar, Chase River and Ladysmith. I've been in the market for a few years now and find the most hits in that area.

That sound track reminds me of some cheesy 90s teenage sitcom theme song. Was half expecting Screetch to pop on camera.

I've been looking around Nanaino for gear now for a few years and there really isn't any type of board/rig rental establishment up here that I've ever run across. For that matter, I think the closest place to buy new equipment is Victoria. I'm still on my epic quest to find a mast foot for a Mistral ...

a dragging fin acts as a natural drag brake to keep me from lifting off the water entirely and setting a new water speed record ;)

I've considered Departure bay, but anything other than a southerly will have you in a wind shadow the majority of the time. Plus, anything other than a southerly will have you into the path of a ferry if you're not careful ;)

Nanaimo Windsurfing Locations

Any suggestions on locations in Nanaimo to learn to windsurf? We've heard Piper's will do but also hear some scary stories about the proximity of the rocks. Any informaiton would be appreciated.

I'll try, but I'm leaving for the lake tomorrow early, I'll try to give you a call either way. If I don't get in touch, don't worry about toting a ton of stuff up there.

btw you can edit your post once it's submitted

my rubber arm has been twisted enough!

Ok, I give in, the archaic gear will somehow be lashed onto the car...gonna have to go buy myself a roof-rack tomorrow before we go. Hopefully I can pull apart the sand-locked two-piece mast. Hmm better get back to packing Ps, once again I'll bring the following: -beaten up Mistral Screamer ~100 ...

is that you get blown down to the sandy beach at the end of the lake about 2km away
well that's a little more comforting, I used to have a bad habit of sailing more broad reach than beam and close reach/haul, but a little walk is worth it when you get that extra broad reach run in.

heh, I'll be lucky to remember to get all the camping gear in the car, muchless my mix-and match set of gear. I'm gonna settle for the camping, and I'll try not to kick myself too much when the wind picks up. But if anyone has an older boom, mast base, foot for a mistral screamer, and seat harness ...
