We had two weeks there in Feb a few years ago. The wind never stopped. 8 or 9m, super consistent. You'll need a car tho, its a long haul out there. Quite a small bay, lots of waves and a nice flat run inside the reef parallel to the beach. No shade, pretty remote spot. Fantastic!
Its a hassle ...

Kapaa is usually lots of fun! But we had days of 10 kt trades. The day we did get was unusual, NNW at 18-20 so we had all of Hanalei to ourselves. That same day we camped at Polihale so I got a sunset session in 25-30, made it all worth while!

Just got back from Kauai, kited one day out of 31. I'm getting over it.

There must be something else to do in Whistler? Take the wife or girlfriend and sit in the sauna. Take both, theres 3 floors. $400

We have a week in a condo in Whistler starting Friday 29th but cant use it. Sleeps 6-8 people.

Find something on Craigslist, wait till the last minute and then start making offers. Your family may not like sleeping on the beach if this plan falls thru' tho.

Pretty funny Jim...I did pretty much the exact same thing, including the wrap around the bar! No dragging but I did have to relaunch out of the tree. Fantastic session, had a couple of hours at least, on the 6. Beauty waves.
