Ok I finished the rehab program and am coming home now. I'm ready to live a life full of gybes, and I no longer feel the need to avoid them. Am I nailing all my gybes now? No, I still suck. But I think I'm pointed in the right direction.
The local foiling crews that we've met here in O'ahu have all been super friendly and welcoming. We've learned lots from them about the local conditions, geography, bathymetry (new word I learned yesterday), resources they use for forecasting, and how they all communicate with each other when they're not at the beach. Interestingly, here in one of the world's greatest wind sport meccas, I haven't been able to find an online resource like BWD. Live wind readings around the island are often only available as paid services; you have to go to a bunch of different websites for forecasts; I haven't seen much at all in the way of webcams, discussion forums, GPS session logging or used wind gear. We truly have a gem of a service here in BWD, where we get ALL of these things in ONE spot. Please donate to BWD if you can, and also don't forget to give him a nice big kiss the next time you see him. He told me he loves that.
