    Best wind of the day was at 1pm with the rip ebb tide strengthening the wind field. But I missed that. Launched at 3:45pm after hearing story of a Grey Whale encounter from a club dingy sailor off Dundarave. Ended having a similar experience 250 meters off the beach at Ambleside. He surface 50ft off my stern and shocked the shit outa me. His mouth looks huge.. eeks Fortunately it was heading east and I was heading south. The whale has been cruising the W. Van foreshore for 5 days now. Funny to see the whale watch boats out but they don't seem to have any idea where to look for it. Conditions were best on the Stanley Park side of the shipping channel and the return to the clubhouse from points west was hasty thanks to the flood tide.
