nitinat forecast

Hi folks,

Was thinking of heading to nitinat camping tomorrow a staying for a couple of days. The forecast looks pretty bad. Just wondering when it's cloudy/rainy, is there likely to be zero wind or just gusty unpredictable wind?

If you are really that keen to camp in the rain for three days, why go to Nitinat?. Columbia Beach has reasonable SE forecast for the next 2-3 days
and camping near there with much better facilities. Check it out.

I'm no nitinat pro, but call looks bad for anything thermal related next 5 days.

But the coast from parksville to comox looks quite windy tues-thurs. Stay up near kai bay somewhere? Could be very good up that'a'way. Winter-like SE conditions in late June!

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I'm going on a camping trip with some friends who are visiting from overseas. Camping somewhere on van island is definite but not all of them kite so nitinat in the rain with no wind isn't really ideal. Columbia beach looks like a decent alternative. Although what makes you think that there should be ok wind? Windguru forecast isn't too promising.

The other option I was considering was China beach closer to juan de fuca but seems unlikely to be any wind there either.

Nitinaht should start working again Friday IF IT CLEARS UP otherwise Comox, San P. or C.B. are the best options

Pool your $, stay in somewhere with a roof and hot tub.

camping options around there...though probably not very wilderness style

temperature diff aint looking the best at the start of this upcoming weekend... I'm hopeful for a clearing westerly to help!

from Sunday on though it'll probably crank everyday like clock work!

Never been to Nitinat before but looking at Fri, Sat and Sun (July 5, 6 and 7).

Is a temperature difference of 6C, 8C and 4C between Tofino and Port Alberni sufficient for wind? Or do I have it wrong?

6 and 8 Tdelta should be fine, so long as there isn't an easterly pressure gradient, and so long as the coast doesn't stay clear and overheat. 4 degrees is getting small, but doesn't mean it won't blow, but likely to be a big gear day. A beach forecasting discussion on the weekend with a few centuries of combined experience represented was: "If you are here and its windy, then its windy; if you are here and its blowing hard, then its really windy". In other words, just go, hang out, multi-day skunks are rare in summer (maybe not this year so far.....)

Excellent. Temperature differences looking even better 5, 8 and 9 C (Tofino to Port Alberni Fri - Sun).

Thanks JL. I added a satellite link to http://wind.altoning.com/temp?station=nitinat. I've been told a S, SW and W direction on WindGuru is favorable. Looks like I'm going to pull the trigger.

I'll bring some (4.7+5.2/93L) windsurfing gear but my goal is to learn to kite upwind (7m, 9m and 11m) this weekend (Fri to Sun).
