Events in the Alberni Valley

Hello Everyone! Winds have arrived here in the Alberni Valley and our first event of the season The Great Foil Challenge is fast approaching. We have secured a rescue ski for our event (Thank you Girl on A board) so everyone can rest easy if difficulties arise...we got you covered!

This event is a upwind downwind circuit with a focus on foil boarding but anybody and any style of board is welcome to come out and join us. This event is a fundraiser for the Children's Hospital so registration is free...we just ask you gather pledges for your participation. All information regarding this event and fundraising platform as well as the two other events this summer can be found at our web page http://southportkiteboarding.ca under the events tab.

We are also trying to promote kiteboarding in the Alberni Valley to ensure future access so please come on over, have some fun, raise some money for a good cause and help secure the future of kiteboarding in The valley.

So stoked as things are really coming together for our kiting for kids foil event this coming Saturday. We now have a upwind marker boat with a pro photographer (potentially) , rescue ski and BBQ (burgers and hotdogs) by donation.

Also that same afternoon is the ACDC paddle board event with a live band and Beer Garden hosted by the young professionals in the afternoon. So come play on the water have a burger and a beer enjoy live music .....can't get any better than that!

On a side note while this is a foil board event all kiteboarders are welcome this is NOT exclusive to foil boards. I challenge all other borders to see if they can out upwind downwind a foil board. Register at southportkiteboarding.ca

Another exciting announcement. We have kiting for kids Shirts to be handed out to volunteers first then participants. Limited to 50 shirts of various sizes and we are offering them in order of date registered. Limited to one run so register up asap.

Sat. May 27th at Canal Beach, we are hosting our Fourth annual Alberni Canal Downwind Challenge (ACDC) - Stand Up Paddleboard Event, and combining it with 'Kitingforkids' (first time in Port Alberni)/fundraiser for BC Children's Hospital and the Young Professionals of Alberni Valley are hosting the Twin City Brewing beer garden and band (5pm on) , after the wind/watersports events 3-5pm.

Kites will be launching for the Maritime Museum/South Port Kiteboarding Launch, with rescue jetski generously provided by Girlonaboard kiteschool.

Congratulations to BWD and WS247 for placing in the tops of their 'class' at ACDC!!! Perfect conditions for the downwinder from China Creek:). Great to see all of the supporters of this annual event! So awesome to watch the kiteboarders for the Great Foil Challenge and fundraiser BBQ at Canal Beach for the 'kitingforkids' event....first one of three this summer in Port Alberni. Huge shout out to all of the dedicated volunteers, sponsors, supporters and participants yesterday. Girlonaboard kiteschools' contributions were integral. Alicia's T-shirts (ACDC&kitingforkids) are classy, sexy and dapper;) Great ongoing, overall work, Dale. We appreciate all of behind the scenes work you do! Thank-you, everyone for joining this growing and evolving grassroots effort in SouthPort.

Kiting for Kids UPDATE

Saturdays potential for wind is low but even so I would love to see people out with their Kites and costumes so we can take pictures and promote the sport for the harbor!! The BBQ will be happening regardless of weather so I will be there. I am planning to have the BBQ ready and running for 1pm.

If anything PLEASE come out and support our fundraising event through our BBQ by Donation. There will be burgers and hot dogs available at the Maritime Museum/Lighthouse Entrance.
