Learning to wingfoil in Ross Bay?

Can anyone advise if this is a good idea?! I've kited on the windward side of Clover Point (ie in a westerly) but am unsure if the wind would be steady on the Ross Bay side. I'm nearly up on foil after about five sessions, all in very gusty conditions - hoping to find the nirvana of steady wind and flat water I haven't yet encountered (currently based in S France)! Looks as though plenty of opportunity for the inevitable walk of shame in Ross Bay, so safe, just wanted advice on the wind/sea conditions for a learner! If it's a no-no, would appreciate any other suggestions!

RB is a good venue for learning, but IMO, not the best. It can be very gusty, choppy at best, and mostly have swells. Great for the elite foilers, very tough when trying to learn.
Willows is likely a better location. Typically flat, sheltered, nice sand beach. Very nice on SE. Can be gusty with a SW. A lot of us OGs learned at Willows.

I learned to wingfoil in Ross Bay -- it's doable! In Victoria we typically wingfoil in Ross Bay if the wind is westerly. If the wind is southeasterly then we move to Willows, west of Clover Pt or Island View. In a north wind we head for Cattle Point. The water is a wee bit cooler than southern France . Come say hi when you arrive -- it's a great local crew!

Thanks folks, appreciate your input, staying in Gonzales so good news re RB! Agree water not quite as warm as here....but then....pacific swells, long sandy unspoilt beaches, super-friendly Canadians (including geese and deer!) all very good reasons to be there - see you next month!
