HAHAHA....ha yes lets build a sauna allright  I used to make them on the beach by using a tarp and heating some rocks up in a fire type deal, works well! Even better would be a portable would stove if some one has an old one kicknig around!

Wood Stove

Post by TURTLE »

I am going to check out a wood stove that someone might be getting rid of. I have seen it sitting on a front lawn for a while.

Regarding the second post in this thread.
I might be interested in the wet suit if it would fit. I have long arms, short legs and I am 5'9. I think I might be out of luck if the suit fit someone who is 6'2''.

Dip and sip

Post by TURTLE »

The wetsuit would be for the "DIP", and the wood stove (sauna) would be for the "SIP"

Heh Turtle,

Any luck on getting the woodstove. We use to do this when I was teaching on the West Coast. Hot water pored into my fish bucket with hot seaweed covered rocks thrown in to keep the warmth happening. Lovely aroma, sure attracted the fish. It was all dug into a pit on the beach with teepee poles covered in a poly tarp. Kept the kids busy digging for days. Sort of felt like being shipwrecked on a deserted isle.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this non-tropic port
Aboard this tiiny ship........

Actually my boat was broken down so I had a friend drop me off for 10 days in a lonely inlet in Nootka sound for a family holiday. And you know how hard it rains in Nitinat, Nootka is equally wet. Family of five under a tarp for five days. Even the scrabble board was going mouldy. Hence the need for a sauna and a shower.

Stove

Post by TURTLE »

WRECKLASS!!!

I have been so terribly busy this week that I haven't got to THE STOVE yet. I just saw a stove that looks like it has been outside for a very long time(air tight with glass front and two man lift). I will have a look on Sunday. Tomorrow the electrician returns. He is makin' $40/hour on 10 hour days wiring my suite. Tomorrow is the last day at $1200. He is good but wholly!! Still cheaper than a mechanic I suppose. I work with him to speed him up doing the lacky work. This has been my everyday after work.

Turtle out...

New Years .....

Post by Bobson »

Kus is looking into getting the Tea Garden at Willows which will be a great WARM place to go after sailing....The wind just has to agree!!

It's good to keep all alternative open depending on what happens with the wind as it is pretty much the most important factor.

I'm OUT....It's game time!! Well not until 2:30pm but it's time to get my head on right!

tearoom at Willows

Post by KUS »

I am sorry to report that after 2 weeks' discussion Kiwanis is not able to provide access due to insurance/ risk mgmt issues and I did not receive any feedback at all regarding the webcam site from them.

Guess we're back to tarping the green-kiter-grater at IV equipped with a patioheater or making a corrall of motorhomes/chilliwagons/Vans at Willows. There is running water at Willows and exposure is less for family members (not to mention MUCH closer to my house :P ) but IV has the sauna/fire potential if someone wants to organize that.

Whatever, I'm in 8)

Wind...

Post by Bobson »

Okay, since I'm sorta organizer dude for this....

Please reply to this if you're REALLY planning on coming and what you're bringing....we need some hot food, hot drinks and stuff to eat/drink them in or on......a patio heater would be great for under the kite shredder as well(good idea My Kus) maybe some dry firewood, matches.

I will bring the tarp etc for blocking the steady, warm 15-18kt wind that will be blowing and I will get the hot drink Urn(?) same as last year and put some hot chocolate in it for kids or mixer for whatever you like.

If you have any more suggestions/idea's for fun stuff please add it here.
The site can still be changed depending on wind on Jan. 1st but for right now we are scheduled for IV or Willows as a backup.....all Windependant! :D
