Gordons Sessions
Friday May 30, 2003 - Gordon's Beach, Sooke
A great Gordons afternoon from 3-6pm or so. Sail sizes ranged from 4.0 to 4.7. I was comfortable on the 4.0 until about 5, then it dropped down to 5.5. For an hour there was some great smooth swell. It was cloudy and pretty warm for Gordons. A small crowd of about 7 sailors. Not too many people maybe because of the lame forecast, the cloud and driving home it seemed windy in Victoria.

Scored a good day at JR today. About 5 windsurfers and 4 kiters were out from 3-6pm with 3-5 ft sets coming in. The wind was light and I was half planing on a 6.3, but the kiters were going on 16's. The waves peaked around max flood at 3-4pm or so. There were good consistent sets coming in until about 5. Tomorrow looks like the waves will be smaller in the afternoon but there might be more wind - maybe a Gordons day?

Good Learning day at Island View. 4 kiters and 1 windsurfer(myself) 10-15 knots of wind most of the day. I spent 3 hours practicing non-planning jybes and getting comfortable in the harness. Interesting sailing as a house went by in the water. Yikes! Unfortunately, not enough wind for waterstart practice but the Kiters look liked they were having lots of fun Kiting downwind and walking back up the beach. Everyone's learning.
