Fun racing @ Nitinat this year....

Post by Bobson »

I have put created this thread as a poll question as well as a place for information. I haven't put too much thought towards the kite side of these races but if a kiter would like to get involved in the organization I would love to learn and help out with what types of racing, kites can compete in.

I want to set up fun races up at Nitinat this year. I started last year but was taken away with doing demos and trips but this year I think I've got things organized so that I will be up on most weekends that it's nice for most of the summer. I've also learned some things from the racing last year at Harrison, Squamish and the Gorge as well as the lessons learned from last years attempt at setting this up which I'm sure will help in the organization for this year. I would like to see slalom and course racing but will wait to see how many people offer to help organize before deciding too much about what type and style of racing we'll have.

I would like to be able to find someone with a boat that will allow us to run races with an actual start/finish line but if that organization falls through then beach starts or a timed start will be fine. I have found some large, colourful orange buoys this year to ensure easier sightings. To set the marks, all that is needed is a Jetski or canoe so I'm sure we can find either of these most weekends.

It would be on a weekend by weekend basis dependant on good weather and the points will be added up so that at the end of the summer we will crown some FUN winners and I'm sure I'll be able to find some sponsors that are willing to chip in for some great prizes. We can use this site to post winners each weekend and standings for the summer and keep everyone excited and looking forward to the next race series.

So if you are interested in helping to organize, nothing to serious, just getting together over a beverage  and confirming who will do what and when..please either reply to this thread or PM me and in the next month or so I'll set up a time for us to get some things down on paper.

Remember, this is just FUN :P racing......the STOKE that I found last year was from my competitive spirit and from how much fun it was getting out on the water and enjoy passing AND getting passed by others all the while SMILING and WOOHOO'ing :o and then enjoying a thirst quenching beverage with everyone on the beach after we all finished. :D
Good Times,
BOBSON!!

Planning over beer sounds good -- I think I still owe you one from about a year ago!

I'm in and willing to help with organization. Hopefully we can do all three events including formula, speed, and slalom this year.

Do I have to jibe around the mark or can I tack into traffic like last summer? I hope to spend most weekends at the Nat so I'll see you there.
