Movie night -- Dec 4 -- BCCF fundraiser in support of RD

Post by morewind »

Movie Night to raise funds for BCCF

As you may know, our friend and fellow windsurfer Russian Dood (AKA Andrei
Vojakine) is recovering from brain cancer. There are many peoples lives who
have been affected by cancer, and many whose lives have been enriched by
wind. Today we are asking you to use our shared passion for wind to
help conquer cancer.

The Royal Victoria Yacht Club has offered to host a movie night fundraiser, on
Dec 4th from 6-9pm.

This will be a great evening for the whole family. There will be lots of action Kite/Windsurf/SUP movies and an opportunity to meet and mingle.
The goal is to raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation and have a good time with friends.
The suggested donation at the door is $10.

The RVYC has a no-host bar with food and drinks. Pricess comparable if not cheaper than down town.
Drinks: $5-6 for a beer,
Food: See menu http://www.rvyc.bc.ca/documents/2011FallMenu_000.pdf

In addition to the movies, there will be an announcement on the interests of the RVYC to better serve the Kite and Windsurf communities

Don't miss this event -- be sure to block off you calendars :!:

Lastly, big thanks to Luke Acker for leading the organization of this event, and for arranging to have the RVYC be the host :D

I'll be there :D This is of course in support of our friend RD but is ALSO a win-win partnership in the making and our community needs to respond in full.

It tends to be the same BWD players that help out, plan, donate.... it would be nice to see some new faces especially since this is an easy one to support:

Come watch a few cool flics, have some drink/food, bring your loved ones out if you want (the liquor license is family friendly) and perhaps some friends who are interested in the wind sports. For those from up island perhaps a designated driver & van could be arranged :?: It would be great to see you guys, who knows, it might be windy down here during that day too for a double play

Thanks Mike for your work on the film selection and those working behind the scenes to make this happen.

Wish I could make it! I don't get back into the country until the 20th but I will be attending any future events at RVYC, that's where I first learnt how to sail as a kid.

Just as a note when I went to the last movie night the same old BWD folks sat together at a big table leaving the 4 new folks I brought with me to sit by ourselves on the other side of the room with virtually no interaction with the BWD Regulars.

Just saying....
Safe riding,

hmm, I feel spoken to....yes, people gravitate to those they know, especially shy and quiet guys like myself

Hopefully we can have a more open seating arrangement, that last movie nite at the Marina Pub downtown was a bit tough with all the regulars attending, it was difficult to fit everyone mixed in with the other non-BWD patrons. The Shark club movie night was pretty packed into one room with not much chance to roam either. The RVYC room we will be in lends itself for more mingling for sure....and please introduce yourselves as new people especially :!: Maybe some nametags with regulars wearing their BWD "handles" would be fun :?: 8)

Hey, I like the idea of name tags for both real and BWD names :!: A good ice breaker. I always wonder if someone will pop me one once they figure out I'm More Force 4 though
