So I'm just sitting here in the 'Wack depressed cause no sailing until May....though ski season is about to hit!

I have sold 3 boards since the summer (142L JP Freerace, 94L Goya One, 83L JP Wave),.....kept my 120L Fanatic Hawk for Harrison. I have been working every weekend this fall doing extra teaching so decided to reward myself.

After mucho research I have put a deposit down on a new board for 2013....I took Tempy's advice who said just to buy the one perfect sized board that you will use the most. I really wanted something I can use anywhere, including Nitinat/Gorge (or even the Coast - nanmoo!) with the following sails: 4.2, 4.7, 5.3 and even 5.9.

I wasn't sure that I would get enough use out of a Quad board but I still wanted something sexier than a single fin.

Here it is........sweet blue color (see pic below)......thoughts?

Should be a good one board solution, much like the 85L Quad I ride for pretty much everything from 4.2-5.3. You'll probably find that the tri-fin set up keeps it far more planted through mega chop than your single fins, but when YOU COME to the coast this summer, it'll really shine.

A few of you have been asking for pics/cost of my new ride.....here is the new 2013 85L Fanatic FreeWave.

Last year I sold my JP Wave 83 for $800, my Goya One 94 for $850 and my JP FreeRace for $400......

I paid $1,899US from Gorge Surf Shop (put a deposit on last fall for 1/2). At the border I declared it and just paid GST/PST tax on $1,099 after claiming my $800 exemption. No duty was charged.

Useful to drag a kid with you when you are buying two boards = two $800 exemptions.

I have had a few Fanatics before. But always the regular versions. This is my first Team Edition and I am very happy. The Team Edition Fanatics are so so nice.

This FreeWave is a really cool dark blue colour on the bottom....I hear this makes it hard for sharks to see you from below.

The Tri fins look great (Maui Fin Co....19cm powerbox center fin and 11cm Futures thrusters), and it is very easy to put in the side plugs to make it a single powerbox fin for Nitinat.

Just wish I was in sailing shape. Hoping to get it over to Nitinat soon.

Ouch $$ hope you absolutely love it, hope it actually gets u out in some waves kc! Been epic on the coast! You woulda not loved last two days here but today it was only headhi to logo with a much better perid 10 secs, one guy just eating it every run but he was stoked.....made me think of you 😃

So,

I had 4 days at Nitinat on my new board(s)....I do have both the 2013 FreeWave Tri 85L and 105L.

Initial feedback. Very easy to sail. Fun.

Day 1: First day was on 5.9/105L and I used the single fin option. Mast base forward at 135cm. I sailed it with outboard straps and 2 back straps.
Great board for mowing the lawn at Nitinat (going back and forth).

Days 2 - 4: Windier. Removed the back strap and went single footstrap at the back on the 105L and 85L. Moved front footstraps inboard. Moved mast base smack in the middle (130cm from tail) and installed the tri-fins (center fin 20cm and two 12cm thrusters on the 105L and 19cm center fin and two 11cm thrusters on the 85L). What a difference. You lose a bit in speed and pointing ability with the tri fins, but sailing is just way easier and more fun. With inboard straps and smaller fins I stood more upright on the board, but it was easier to sail and jibe. I used various combos of 5.3 and 4.7 Gurus on both the 105L and 85L. Also tried the 105L with a 4.7. This was a real blast - big board + small sail while most people were on 5.0 - 5.5. Still lots of planing ability but with the tri fin set-up the 105L board did not feel too big for the 4.7.

I really liked having 2 identical boards of different sizes....as you can keep the same sail size and just move down in board size when it picks up a bit.
