downwinder this Friday, May9th

Post by Sandy Beach »

For anyone interested in getting some downwind practice in. We are organizing another 'test run' of the China Creek to Canal Beach course for this Friday, May 9th. Likely around 4pm when the wind picks up. SUP racers from Comox, Coombs and Port Alberni will be participating. Feel free to join us!

On Friday.....sure! Thermal wind is already starting to build here now. Should be rocking and rolling by 4pm.

Trying to arrange a support boat this week.

Great to have so many SUP ers from Vancouver, Comox, PA and Vancouver Island 'test' out the Alberni inlet waters this past Friday, for the upcoming ACDC event next month (Sat June14/14).

Awesome to see BWD finish the 9KM China Creek to Canal Beach course with about 22knots tailwind in record time of 46minutes yesterday! Nice to see some kiters and windsurfers enjoying the thermals at the same time.

Stoked about the Port Alberni mid-island hotspot!

I stopped by PA on my way to Vancouver on Saturday. Thanks Sandra for helping me find China Creek on last minute notice :) I lucked out with the wind and had a nice 15-25kt downwinder to Canal Beach. There were some decent sized swells in a few sections. I can't wait to try it on a 25-30kt day....looking forward to the race. Canal Beach looks great 8)

ACDC online registration deadline Tues.June10

Post by Sandy Beach »

This first ever Alberni Canal Downwind Challenge (ACDC) is coming up next Sat. June14th at Canal Beach in PA.

There seems to be a lot of interest in the wind community and I really look forward to seeing many of you here next weekend!

It's quite a journey (9km) from China Creek and definately will be epic for those who venture up for this event. Register online at https://secure.eventsonline.ca/events/alberni_acdc/ (online deadline is Tues.June10/14). Onsite registration available that day too.

Registration (fun races and acdc) takes place at Canal Beach at 12:30pm, along with your board drop-off (if you want your board transferred to China Creek).

Fun races begin at 1pm off Canal Beach.

There will be lots of activities happening at the beach that day, with many local sponsors and tons of free give-aways, plus draw prizes. Food available onsite too.

China Creek race starts at 4pm and fastest racer will likely finish in 46minutes (bwd), especially with a good tailwind blowing.

Westwind is offering a BBQ dinner after the race onsite.

Come enjoy the new Canal Beach in Port Alberni!
