Nitnat conditions

Post by slowlearner »

Just curious, is there anything in the wind model that would work for Nitnat conditions?

How full is the campground on weekends usually?

Nitinat is pretty simple: Look for fair weather and at the temp difference between bamfield and port alberni or lake cowichan, the bigger difference the better, but basically if it's 20degrees plus, it'll blow. If you look at the imaging on this site, when the fogbank sits on the coast it supercharges it.

The campground gets pretty busy on the weekends, especially July/Aug, and is packed long weekends.

Yep look for sunny weather. Doesn't have to be totally clear. If you want to keep your forecasting in the bwd site use the "city" forecast page and the tofino and port Alberni forecasts. The two cities are in the dropdown shortlist. Anything over about 4 or 5 degree difference works unless there is an exceptional east pressure gradient. Which is rare. Also on the bwd page, Jl usually summaries the chances (look for the bold text amongst the links) refers to the Randy Nat forecast also on bwd. Truly a one.stop shop!
