Pulled up to RB and it started pouring rain. Sat in the truck with Sten and watched all the wings make their way to shore. Dropped to about 5kts and then watched it slowly ramp up to 20! Ended up being a great session, swell was a little confused, but got the job done. Found one or two ramps to really boost off of up at the CP. Nailed on Raley that actually felt fully extended out the back and was able to land it nicely - stoked. Lots more wind to start the week!

Bueno Cinco de Mayo! A bit late to the party, but I certainly didn't miss any dances! I followed Idefix in with big wings given the slow build up. Then the winds really showed up and was quickly OP'd. I had a couple of runs beyond Clover, but my 6m and my arms weren't too happy. I decided to just play in the bay where the gusts were manageable. Got lots of short flag outs and I'm slowly building that skill. At the end it was getting too much even in the bay and I was tired so I called it a day to save some ... (more)

Wind held off enough that all the people on the beach watching the snowbirds got to then watch MY show :-)
Of course instead of a finely choreographed display of finesse and dexterity, they got what i do - massive breaches and crashes- still a show, so i guess that counts. Had the whole ocean to myself.

Bit too much like last week. Would have attended RBFC but had commitments before and after and Pat Bay was about 20 knots on arrival. Again had the look of a temporary wind and indeed it was. 6.5 and 1010 wouldn't have helped much more as it died to sub-10. Glad I had a few fun runs with the 999 again and the new 5m slick. Very fast and in control, fun even just bombing around with no waves when you go 18 knots or so. Remembered I need to practice flying toe side but wind shut down as soon as I reme ... (more)

Fantastic session with strong wind and only a few lulls and punchy gusts. I am glad I opted for the 12m as it was always there for me as I tried a number of tacks. I am happy to say I got a couple of them with respectable form. Early in my session there was some nice swell walls to ride and slash but as the tide fully came in it got more choppy. I had a number of nice shore-side gybes that were fully powered and are so thrilling as the kite comes around, makes an awesome noise, and pulls me through the ... (more)

looked windy when I got there and I started out really nicely powered. Only lasted about 30 minutes before things got marginal on my 4.0. Slogged for a bit but packed in as I had a limited time window. Came within 2 metres of colliding with a sea lion. Are those things paying attention? Can't imagine a foil impact would do them any good. Whales in the bay. Looked like tweezer had front row seats.

Awesome session. So good I lost track of time. Surprisingly not busy. At one point, I was completely alone. Conditions were 4m 90% of the time. I only went out on a 5m because it was a little wimpy when I started. By the time I left, there were at least 15 wings in the water being lapped by Bobson who was frequently scaring the s#it out of unsuspecting foilers and joggers. Huge pod of sea lions came crashing through like a football team and some whales were in the area too. Awesome

Arrived early, 8:45am and there were 3 Wings out, RBLocal, JustJohn and Gustastic and 2 rigging Dr. MarkyMark and Fray-Fray, oh ya, and me. It was still light inside so I grabbed the 7.0m but 5 mins later some 10-15kt gusts coming through the bay so I threw the 7.0m back in the ManVan and grabbed the 5.2m and rigged it FAT! BikerMatt showed up on his bike, of course and was rigging quick. Got out and the 5.2m was the perfect choice. Ripped around for 30 mins but then it picked up to 15-20kts so came in and ... (more)

Nice to have another weekend session. May westerlies are hopefully here to stay. Greg reported 5.5 through 3.5 (Tweezer) were being used. Pretty good practice session, some OP gusts early on threatened to get stronger in squalls but that never happened. I left at about 2 when the heavy rain killed the wind. Made some close-to gybes, oddly all on the scarier outside where I think the wave helped me stay on foil longer to get around the turn. Felt nearly balanced an in control with the wing pointing the ... (more)

Good wing turnout at the Terminal today. Just as I was heading out Jerin said it looked like a great day to practice transitions. Said I was going to work on my heel side tack, which has alluded me for a long time. Followed Jerin into one, watched him do it, did the same thing and bam, so easy, everything was perfect and foiled away like I'd been doing them for years. Sure enough tried about 20 after that and failed every time. Still, super fun day on flat water.

Wind wasn't as much as expected. Put on the 1100 front foil as it was light. Looked promising but never really picked up, just really riding the gusts. A couple Wings out at Willows. Nothing exciting, just a few foiling runs but at the end dropped down to nothing. Waited for 20 mins to see if it would pick up but nothing. ugh! Hoping wind tomorrow happens. Tricked me at first- came in hard, so i had one good run out - and then it shut off - had a long drift back, and was just about to pack it in, when i felt the gentle tickle on my cheek- and decided to wait a few - good thing i did because it rebuilt quickly and produced some really nice long rollers.
Quality session and reset the stoke.

Nice morning at Spanish Banks! Steady wind near shore at 1030 launch and was glad for the 6M. Some trying sections of the upwind leg due to wind holes on the outside, but steady progress when stayed close to the beach. Finally some swell adjacent to Dog Beach and Acadia. Could have dressed warmer. Big crew rigging up upon my return.

Looked pretty good from shore but the swell was coming from 2 directions making it hard to start and hard to ride especially as wind dwindled to about 12 knots ,didn't even bother getting the bigger foil. At least the sun was out and met Pierre (windfoiler) visiting from Courtenay.

Fantastic start to May. Despite failed exploration by trying to put in at Fleming Beach. Inadequate wind and lots of rock obstacles. Moved to Cordova Bay based on Lancer and MtnarG OSRs. Sadly, I missed a foiling chance with Lancer. Although I had a tough time getting past the medium swells, once up, it was non-stop powered foiling. I played near the beach and there was plenty of wind close to shore. Surprisingly, I got some really nice flagged-out runs and the swells were so very accommodating. Missed the ... (more)

Saw some wind on the BWD Willows webcam so decided to hit it. Quickie lunchtime session. I almost forgot how much I love the lightwind session saver. When I arrived it was 10-12kts but by the time on the water, seemed to be 8-11kts and stayed that way for an hour then decided to drop a bit so I called it. Such a beautiful day with a couple boats out from RVYC, maybe a laser and a 49er.? I put on the 900cm2 front foil and WOW! I forgot how much glide and speed that thing has. If there was a bit more wind I c ... (more)

Well, 2 for 2 for off the charts frustration factor - this time the wind was there, but so was patch after patch of thick seaweed. Not the sargassum that drops you off foil, but the loose lettuce that created enough drag to make you continually have to either pump hard, or head downwind to keep the speed up.
Hence was hard to go upwind, so no long rides.
Wind looks like it might stick around for a bit, so hopefully another try this afternoon when the salad is pushed onshore.

A nice afternoon on the water! Worked my way up past Point Grey after 150pm launch, but caught in the 3 o'clock lull and turned back. Good wind along the shore during the low tide. Just enough size rigged and glad to have the bigger board as slogged for 15mins when the lull hit. It picked up again and enjoyed endless gybes on the down wind leg.

Too early!
Noon, The bay filling up with a mild 12kts. Rigged the 6.0 and cruised for an hour then moved to a 5m. It just kept getting better! More sunshine and stronger winds as the day warmed up. Good swell by mid-afternoon. I ran out of steam as the late shift arrived to score peak conditions.
Great vibe :))

Quick sesh after work at the alternative home spot. Breeze further west than usual but really good in the middle of the lake. Fun in the flat water. Made some gains on the toe side tacks which are so much easier in flat flat water.

Needed some time on the water and conditions prevailed. Gratitude. Comfortable conditions for a 4m. One or two moments where things softened which reminded me to get back closer to Schorr in case the wind dropped and I needed to slog it. No need. Solid wind for the entire session. Great crew of ninjas out on the water.

Sunday, good. Monday was even better! Less gusts. Gorgeous sunshine. Lots of OGs and more to share the swells. I built up a bit more confidence in the bigger swells by following Idefix around. Swells were big, but they felt more catchable for me. I learned to turn downwind down the face to regain a bit more flag out speed. Highlights were jibin' with MtnarG, and seeing Bobson rippin' and jibin' like The Flash! Two sessions today and brewskis with Danno after each one to critique my progress.
