Just a bit windy at the terminal today! :o Too bad it didn't last. Managed to get in about 30 minutes before it dropped off but there was some very nice swell for the terminal. Super fun while it lasted.

Fun late afternoon session in White Rock! The wind went from zero to 20 knots in no time and the swell ramped up quickly. The temperature dropped quickly and the rain did not help. Starting to feel chilled after an hour , and the wind started to back off anyway. Fortunately the rain stopped for the pack-up. Good to see the White Rock regulars including Chalmers and Atlon. Nice debrief with IPA!

Morning Session in warm sun. Tide getting too low to wing foil so decided on nostalgia warm low tide session on Flite 17m and twin tip.
Fun going along the sand bank tide line in the Easterly.

I was going home after checking RB and finding nothing. But, stopped at a red light I noticed the tree branches dancing. Back at RB, stuff was starting to build. I followed Idefix into the fray, but quickly turned back as I approached the point. Just too much for my limited skills. I stayed in the bay. Probably should have switched to ny 4m, but too lazy. Regardless, got some short flag outs and lots of fun carves in the ridiculous high powered winds. Not sure why, but my GPS only tracked for 20min.

Arrived to nuking conditions, decided to wait until the wind was in the low 30's rigged the 5m and headed out. As soon as I was on the water the wind continued to decrease and I couldn't get upwind to Cook St so stayed around the spiral staircase. There was a few times when I decided I should head in but then a gust of wind would hit and convinced me to stay out just a bit longer. It wasn't until it started nuking again that I decided it was time to call it, just as the sun was breaking to the north, ... (more)

To my surprise I arrived to a busy launch area, I think there was seven of us at one point. It feels a bit different foiling in fresh water, like the water is less dense or something, maybe I'm imagining it.....Good wind until the end. Nice to not need to rinse the gear when I got home.

I think I got lucky showing up when I did. It looked like it was turning on and off without any consistency on RB cam. Decided to scream over to RB to see for myself and boom'went out on a 4 m for five minutes and came back to get the 3 m. Was still overpowered and very gusty but managed to get some excellent swell for a while. Definitely some flat areas and then some big 'troughey'rollers. Foiled it all the way back to the beach just before the wind dropped. Plaisir'.

Instead I was rewarded with an epic wave session in true SW 20-25 on 8m+surfboard with Jeff 9m+TT, Sean 9m+TT, Chalmers 11m+TT and James winging. 2 hrs (4-6pm) of super steady wind and clean waist high waves. Crazy wind day! I had a hunch the first wind spike was more of a squall and indeed it dropped as soon as I got the 4m pumped up, from about 30 to 15, then when I got the 5m pumped up and out there it died to zero. Sat and waited then started getting some North. After a while filled into 20-25 which was nice to get flying on the 999 for the first time. Realized it was more the short fuse I was probably getting used to, a bit like a rodeo for a while, then got better. Felt so nice and fast downwind, too ... (more)

Checked willows in the am but too light and variable. Did lots of chatting with the crew. Waited for the W to fill in. Didn't have to wait too long. Wind was solid to start and then got a little sketchy dropping to 16 at Ogden with reliable puffs blowing by Clover. Then it turned back on for the finale!

Well, while generally fun, this sport can also be incredibly frustrating!
Like today- trying to get out, wind not super strong yet ( forecast to be building) but SHOULD have been enough- but the large patches of the annoying sargassum weed seemed to grab the foil whenever a puff came - made for lots of pumping, lots of cursing, but not a lot of moving '?
Then when I did finally work my way out of it and got foiling, the wind died off.
Caught a puff and thought i should foil back to the beach while I c ... (more)

It's true. Not proud of it, but but loss of my parking spot drove me to red hot foil rage that had me trying to ram Bobson head on! Luckily, his fighter-pilot level maneuvering skill saved the day and avoided my ruining a fantastic foiling day. Gorgeous power centred on the yellow buoy. I had fun chasing Bobson and Tweezer to capture their greatness on GoPro. RDog was coming just as my play time was running out. Loved the warm sunshine and solid winds at the cow ranch the past couple of days.

Long Beach withdrawals had me jonesing for a session. 15 knots at the terminal was all I needed. Realized after a few sessions in the waves that I needed to work on a few things, mainly tacks and foot switches! I still can't get a heel side tack but managed to get close today. Lots of practice with the foot switches as well and those actually improved. When I got back to shore Andrew asked me who I was talking to out there! That's when I realized that maybe everyone doesn't talk to themselves when sailing. ... (more)

That was the summmeriest day ever so far this year! I followed Bobson's lead into the sunny, warm, light winds - and was pleasantly surprised to get foiling even before the channel marker. There was plenty of wind funnelling through Cad Bay's parallel shoreline, likely getting an extra couple of knots courtesy of Daniel Bernoulli. I tried hard to be a Bobson obstacle to prevent him from getting another 70km day. Mission accomplished! Great fun to share the swells with RobDS and Jumping Steve as well.

Nice session once it kicked up a notch and Bobson decided to rig down.
I used a 5.2 wing and larger 1400 foil.
Got one gybe and had plenty of missed attempts.

So Freakin' Great!!!! Best session that I can remember. Saw wind on the cam so took the day off work and headed to CP right away. Got my parking spot which started things off well. Rigged the 7.0m as it looked lighter, maybe 8-12kts. RobDS was there looking and Sam was there walking the dog. I headed out feeling pretty good, got foiling in a couple mins and didn't look back. Headed over to Willows to say Hi to Gautham and RedVanPaul and then headed back when the wind picked up to 15-18kts. Came in and re-ri ... (more)

It was too nice a day to pass up a moderate NW wind at CP. It was a chase-the-ripples session trying to get to any wind patch to lift with. There were a few short foiling runs that were paid for with many wing and board pumps. I got to practice lots of light wind techniques for getting on foil with a few discoveries for me. It was pretty cool to be foiling with Boston raging on my headphones! Hoping Thursday forecast comes true.

Ok, so before you boot me off, this is satirical. I have been missing so many windy days at Pipers because of work, that I thought I should reveal "how" I enjoy the wind these days. I bike commute - 10km each way. Basically N-S almost downhill to work and S-N mostly uphill home.
On Tuesday I left work to a bright and breezy headwind. 18-20 occasionally off the Port and Starboard side (cross-on_, but a lot of "into the wind" uphill with no respite.
It is the one time I am like &quo ... (more)

The Pipers scale.
Arrived to 25kts and caps in the bay. I rigged the 4m because I forgot the 3.0 on the drying rack :/ As expected, we got sweet swell lines on long periods. Post session debate on "Just how good can it get?" DavidM and Uddereef called it an 8/10 on the Pipers Scale, leaving room for warmer summer temps but Sam and I scored today's session a weed free 9 :))

Another awesome sesh at RB. Fully juiced on 2.5. Started on the ART1001. Getting better at turning that glider at speed and staying in the wave. Can glide endlessly in those conditions. Wind and waves increased so switched to the Spitfire. Took a few runs to get used to then it was game on. Nice steep waves against current close to the point where the kelp will soon be. Easy riding downwind on any sized wave with 35 knots pushing you along.

About half time on the 4.5. Good at the start, then wind picked up and tried a 3.5, which was good until I hit a wind shift or some nasty current that put way East.

Work! Wind continued through the night. Earlier start. Big gear (5.3/116) was too big by the time I got it to the water. Took a few wave rides, then went in for 4.5/92. It was still a lot of work ' start, stop ' tough to position and catch waves, but that didn't seem to slow Red Baron as he was putting on another clinic! Water seemed colder today (likely some upwelling from the wind overnight). Whales on the outside again today! Second half after lunch did the reverse ' started on smaller stu ... (more)
