Managed to snag a quick session this afternoon. Had to use the big gear and the secret low wind & pump weapon - Axis PNG 1150 front foil. Was joined by twin Junky (he's got one too) and we were easily flying around. Those foils have ridiculously low stall speeds, and pop up with the slightest of efforts. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, no gloves. Saw a Bobson schlogging around with a wing in his hand, don't think he made his 100km today! Despite the light conditions, I think everyone in attendance w ... (more)

Hmmm, fun enough, but it was a lot of work. The 780 was probably not the best choice today, but it did surprisingly well. Thanks for the beverage Bobson - good to see you on the wing! It looked like one of the best windfoil days ever.

Sunny and warm. The first hour was super light - an exercise in keeping the kite in the sky particularly during gybes but it picked up nicely for the second hour. Mostly by myself but a few others joined towards the end trying to make the big gear work.

Well, that kinda sucked! This Wing Whatever isn't as much fun as everyone says it is. HA!! I got going quick enough once, near the end but just not enough wind or 'Wing-skill' to get flying. Probably a bit to do with my smallish (1100cm2) front foil and my weak 'Wing-skill'. I feel that if there was 15kts, I could have been flying and crashing. It was a good day to learn how to hold and pump the Wing. I only fell in 3 times and stayed upwind so no WOS. It will take more practice but it was a pretty good fir ... (more)

Quick session after dinner under the rainbow. Started out on the low end of the wind range but picked up a couple of knots for a majority of the session. Nice to know you can easily foil here on a light air set up when Yarrow point is showing S 10-12. Fun bonus day!

Well, THAT didn't go according to plan:-(
I only logged it to illustrate several don'ts.
Don't ignore the anemometer saying there is barely enough.
Don't ignore your gut saying there really isn't enough.
Even if you do get up on foil, don't continue to pump out farther and farther.
Tried to drift in on the dying puffs, but finally had to admit defeat and start paddling .
In my defense, apparently I am an addict, and was going through wing withdrawal.

Steady breeze from 3:30 - 4:30PM but not enough of it. Not much tide either. From the digs to sailing and back home again in two hours. Three other dingies sailing but in general low attendance of Sailboats in English. Probably because winds were very light prior to 1pm. Its nice to be able to leave sails rigged and ready to go. 8

A welcome bonus session with MtnarG at Agate. Likely should have gone to IV based on the recent logs. Very light at first and way too much pumping for my lazy a$$. Got occasional lifts, but there was a lot of squeeze for minimal juice. Even MtnarG's massive 8m was challenged in getting lift. It was a difficult place to foil for me. Lots of holes, weird current reduced lift, lots of kelp further out at the windline. Took me down often as the low sun glare hid the kelp and made for some nice med speed OTBs. F ... (more)

Nice light-wind session with HighRocker. Warm weather and flat water. Arrived to 12 - 14 kts. By the time I was rigged, the wind had died a bit. Foiled from the beach, but the wind died some more. Was ready to go home, when the wind picked up again. Headed back out for the best part on the session. Strong current same direction as the wind added a degree of difficulty. Looking forward to more warm weather!

New toy day. Axis 1180 and 362 skinny stab clone From Marty C. Awsome session, warm, consistent wind, and Bobson blowing past me. Love the sp 1180. Fast for it's size but turned really well. Went out on the 350p stab and it felt good. Wanted to try the skinny stab and man was it fast, max speed of just over 16 knots in 12 knot wind. It was surprisingly faster than the 350p.

Surprise, Wind!! I was cleaning the garage when I saw IV was 10-13kts, so I dropped the broom and headed there. Arrived to 1,000 cars but the car right beside the rigging area was leaving, perfect!! Fray-Fray arrived and was killing it on his 5.0m riding the small wavages doing a mini downwinder from the campsite at the point South of IV. I just sailed all over enjoying the which which ... Wow! That was a Grade A Prime Steer of a day! Two 1.5hr sessions. Early session had 9/10 winds, IMO. Predictable, steady, and right in my sweet spot. Stayed on foil to JJI and then to RVYC without touching down. That's how good the winds were! Sine wave jibes all the way back to CP. Jibe tag with TwizMan. Unreal! Second session was 6/10 but still good with the 6m with a bit of pumping. Would have been a good day for Bobson to ride the wingworm, but fear is the mindkiller. Sadly, I forgot to stop my GPS and ... (more)

Good turnout for a cool weekday in March. Arrived to light wind so rigged big. Wind picked up almost immediately. Overpowered for 1.5 hrs. Too lazy to change gear and wasn't sure if it would last. Started to die a bit as I was packing up. Very fun session.

Looked at 10am - didn't get excited. 1 more coffee, back at noon, looked decent. Burned around the bay with the OGs. Practiced some board spins, wing spins, over the bar spins. Finally noticed my wing was getting limp. An elusive leak somewhere! Home to fix it.

Arrived early for a chat with The Twizz. He left to do chores and I started rigging. Sir-Lance-A-Lot and MtnarG arrived and blew up their 7 and 8m Wings respectively. I rigged my 5.2m and it was the right call for me. 30 mins of 10-15kts then it ramped up to 12-18kts and the rest of the OG arrived, H-Rock, RVP - Red Van Paul, Morgan and Greg-Can and The Twizz returned to chase Tugs and foil backwinded lots. I came in to warm my hands and have a snack and then put in another 45 mins as Danno made his way out ... (more)

Saw some wind at IV so took the afternoon off, first lunch with daughter then BOOM, hit the water. As I arrived it looked like 10-12kts, got out and foiled right away for awhile then it backed off to 8-10kts schlogged for a bit then it picked up a couple kts and was flying again. Looked like it was getting lighter again so pulled the shute. I was going to play with the Wing on the beach but decided going home and opening up my new board that arrived today. Good choice!! It's Pristine. Celebrated with an ice ... (more)

Sunny and a bit chilly. This time rigged smaller (7m) and it was the sweet spot with the foil. Some nice gentle rollers from the point break with a few other kiters in the water. A fun chilled out session.

Bang on Model2!
07:30 Brief wind review with HRock, not quite yesterday's intensity but sunny and warm... We scored another cruisy session in mild swell.
A pod of steller sea lions claimed the bay close to shore, some big bulls napping just below the surface. I was careful to announce my approaches tapping/bouncing the bow repeatedly.

Got a text from Tweezer just as I was looking at the RB Cam and the wind looked like it may be doable! Threw everything in the car and tore down there for a 6:45pm start. A gorgeous blue sky evening, quite warm, no gloves required. DrMark was just arriving too and first out, quickly followed by Tweezer and myself. Extremely light on the inside and really just a band of pumpable flyable wind from point distance to the kelp line. My big gear made all the difference in the world for me and it wasn't too hard ... Saw the wind line on the webcam. Consulted with ULR and headed down. Mark A showed up and we agreed it was worth donning the suits. Super light at first and then the last 20 was really good cruising weather at the point. Good workout. Last task was to break into ULR's key lockbox that wouldn't unlock.

Light winds but steadier than the last 3 days. On the water @ 3:20pm & Crossed the shipping channel to the outer freighter births returning dead downwind on the small swell. 5 more knots and it would of been wild fun.
Still hope to cross to Jericho as well as enjoy a wavy ebb rip tide trip to Caulfied on a 12knot Westerly

Another warmish sunshine session at Pipers with Idefix. Not quite as awesome as Monday, but way better than no wind. More sea lions hanging out. Less steady winds with more holes in and out of the bay. The tidal flow hampered lift as well. Played lots at the left side of the lighthouse rocks. Swell was very friendly and predictable. Winds reduced just after lunch as predicted in Model 2. No locals today. Not quite enough wind for the skimmers. I'm hyper for Pipers!

Typical short session starting at 4pm missed the good wind but better than sitting on the beach. One WazP foiler managed to cross the Bay for better the winds at Jericho.
I recon 3 afternoons on the water is better than skiing slush in the 15 Deg C locals but either way its springtime ahead of Spring.

Pipers NW winds are back!
Reasonable forecast on both models with 18kts at Entrance Island. It's a go! 10:00 You know it's gonna be good when the local fins (Uddereef, DavidM) are already on it. Sunny skies, silver seas and the old pine humming 15kts. 4.0 on 1250cm for an hour and 5m for most of this session. Fun sailing with HRock and Frasermc. Short lull around noon, more intensity with a westerly shift for the afternoon. A good sample of conditions, flat speed runs in the bay, surf and flag on th ... (more)
