Arrived at RB around 3:30pm. Howling sunny south westerly with standard line-up of RBFC masochists. Immediately realized that I was dangerously overpowered on a 4 m. Big swell, lots of it. Wind kept intensifying after an hour but instinct said not to go get a 3m. Sure enough conditions got super weird, it started to HAIL and the wind came to a standstill, and then started blowing in from the north in under five minutes. All good. I was in the mood for a long paddle in :-)

I followed Mark A into the fray after his localized OSR. Sadly I went with my small 6m and was immediately OP'd right within the bay. Tuna joined in and was pulling off some impressive moves. I dipped my toes closer to the point and was swiftly discouraged. It was +30kts out there. I played close in and switched to my 4m after I feared for wing stitching or shoulder joints just giving way. Left the house with zero stoke when it was hailing, but arrived to sun and Tunacan ripping in some nice looking waves. The new 3.5 worked great and has much better top end compared to the v2. The wind cranked up just after I told ULR it was perfect 4m, then I had a fun session on the 2.5 until it switched N and luckily avoided a swim.

Wind slammed in right on time for a lunch break session (1:40-2:30) Highrocker was only one out. Quick 40 minutes on the 3.5. Swell just got better and better as time went on. Best RB session of the year so far for me. BWD and RB Local came out to join my Zen session as I was finishing up. Looked like they were scoring!

Arrived around 3:00 to big wind! Dave said rig the 4m you'll be great, umm no, totally wound overpowered, deja vu supersize sunday...but the swell was loverly and fun. Decided it was ridiculous so headed in to rig the 3m. Came back out and wtf? schlogging watutsi out thru the swell to the outside, still no flying, turn around catch some flight, pull a couple quick reaches and inbound hit a northerly wind shift in the face and down we go. Scored a sunny WNW 25 session at Spanish Banks on 8m+surfboard. Choppy disorganized waves. Hunted around up to Acadia until I finally found clean waves between Dog Beach and Spanish Bank. Saw Jirka windsurfing at Acadia who took a downwinder down to Spanish Banks. Glad to finally talk to Jirka face-to-face after riding with him yesterday when White Rock clocked westerly.

This time NW - which for Pt.Holmes, means squirrelly, gusty until closer to the open Straight - then squirrelly, gusty and large waves.
REALLY good practice in luffing the wing.

Hectic. Got the peak of the wind and was able to move around most of the time (unusually steady for WREB), but the smaller choppy waves kept your busy. Wind was south of straight onshore so port out gave you more angle off the beach hammering into the tightly spaced wind. Starboard inbound was a touch smoother working in with the waves. Double session today! Fun but challenging day. First time winging at White Rock, some good and some bad points. It was tough getting through the break when the tide was low. Once outside though there were some nice steep waves to ride, sometimes a little too steep. :o Caught some nice topside rides though once I got used to things. Arrived a little late at 3pm. Still looked liked lots of juice left with the wind really gusting out of the north. Only my second RB session of the year, so took a little acclimatizing to the gusts and swell. Definitely some of the best and biggest swell I have tackled at the bay. Cruising back up to Clover one time I completely lost sight of Shaggy dropping down into the trough of of a swell and popping back up!

First wing sesh of the year. Got spanked for first 1/2 hour or so on the 2.5 and spent it in the water more than on board. Then slowly got my mojo back and scored some fast rides on Ross Bay monsters. Lulled into the upper 20's so switched to 4.0, which was a handful, but got my best rides on big smoothies. Going to be sore tomorrow.

Two session day. First at CP with Fraser and Jon. Steady SW, well powered winds with some medium swell. Lots of sailboats out for collision avoidance. I stayed upwind closer to Willows, wary of getting downwinded into the bay. Fun times. RB looked too gnarly for me so I moved to Willows for a second session with GregCan and Morgan. Got to Beach Drive above Clover Point and saw biggest waves for a westerly I've seen there. It was clearly above my paygrade so already having the wetsuit on wasn't a help. Interesting watching BWD, Tweezer, Shaggy, and Winddoc crashing even when going straight. Spent some time binocular spotting drifters and driving down to Gonzales Bay to pick one up. Got to Bazan to see Bobson gybing inside and by the time I'd parked he was by Sidney Island. Rigged 4.0, launched, got a short foil, short slog, then a longer foil, crashed, slogged and slogged and so was Bobson so I turned back to the beach. Walked the gear back upwind in what seemed to be better wind again. Bobson came in, I went out for a few more runs but it was super gusty and offshore. Season kick-off straight into some legit swellies and fun rides stupidly powered on the 7m. Glad I got prodded by the Goateed Wonder, who was soaring courtesy of his new Pivots (looked sick!). Forearms sore from the gloves, couldn't await arrival of the Unicorn with the W/NW switch. Glad I came in as it started gusting even more and temp dropped again.
Great early season turn out with 14 kites, two windsurfers and Tsawassen killing it on the Wingding.

Epic day at White Rock. Early afternoon was too much for my 8m+surfboard so had to downsize to 5m which was marginal at times in SW 25g30. Huge turnout of kiters and 3 windsurfers (C36, Michael and a very talented freestyler). Packed up with most of the kiters then the W30 westerly arrived just before I deflated by 5m so went out again a super fun chest high wave session. Jumbo day. Started on the 3.5. Came in right away for the 2m. Big gusts and swells made the restarts tough. The rewards were the big swells and long rides. Backed off a little after 1.5hrs. Slipped in for a sandwich and twizzlers. Back out for another 30 on the 3.5 as the wind shifted more to the west and the swells got a little smoother. Big day for the books!

Nice flat water day off cattle point, breeze was way further south (full on Southerly for a bit) than forecasted. Super consistent 12-15 for first half of the session. Fun buzzing my friends out keel boat racing. Ang and Jon showed up for a bit to share the fun. Beers at the YC after a nice hot shower strip down and rinse off the gear in the YC change room. Maybe again after work tomorrow'..?

Full force in PB again, OP on 3m survival for first while then mellowed a bit to around 30 gusting 35-40. Occasional very big (for me) waves, some crashing, but the bay was too disorganized for long runs, but did have a few thrilling rides! Door on the van almost took my arm off. Kiter trying to get kite out of tree in front of van. Pretty intense. Love the Slick.

Big big big afternoon out in the backyard bay! Sam and Greg coming off the water to rig down was a good sign. Decided to go with the 4m, just as Landon also arrived on scene. Maximum Xtreme . Challenging session with 40 knot gusts and some large swells at times. Big crew out. Big grins. Looked to be backing off to super fun conditions when I was packing up. HA 680 worked great even on the fast, steep sections. Bodes well for towing!

Bazan Bay was great for first hour of the session. Lots of South in the wind for first hour then wind turned more West for last 30 mins. I rigged the 6.0m as it was pretty steady 10-15kts then it picked up after 30 mins to 15-20kts so I foiled overpowered for another 30 mins then MF4 showed up so I came in and chatted and rigged the 4.5m Flyer. Weirdest conditions of the year yet. I thought today was gonna be the consistent one. Glad I had such an awesome night last night at Ross Bay. Really struggled out there with a direct on-shore,touch-n-go wind. There was nothing westerly about today. Used the opportunity to get a little coaching from Greg on my 72L Omen board.
