Arrived at 9 and wind was on. Pretty lumpy sea but very little debris. All on my own until the end when j-dog joined - felt like I'd missed the shark siren or a sewage warning. All good though - some of my quickest laps and some enjoyable down-sea gliding on the mid size swells. Wind died as I left but looks good at willows now.

6 knots with gusts to 12 when rigging. Took Marty C's downwind board out with the foil drive to do some testing. With the foil drive I could get up and then keep going in the low wind. Such a great tool to open up low wind days. Eventually the wind picked up and I was able to get on foil without using the foil drive. Even with the prop and pod creating more drag the downwind board really got up to speed very quickly. Jibing was difficult in the low wind and I had the motor to low on the mast so when i ... (more)

My OSR to the OGs was for marginal conditions that I was feeling onshore. Then, I made it out to the yellow buoy and it was ON! Continually powered up making for easier, repeated gybes and carves. Great to have Bobson whoopin' past me at mach 21(kts), TunaCan rippin' 360s around the buoy, Greg going up and down! I was just leaving as Twizzler and the Good Dr came out to play. Some of the best sessions are the ones that where you have low expectations, then you get gifted!

Saw some trees moving and there was an OSR from Bobson and Docker in FB group, so went to check CP out for myself. Pretty up and down, but good to get a session in, seeing as I havent foiled much this month. Archie and I dodged Animal Control on the way out - probably the most exciting part of the session.

Another Surprise Sesh!! Docker sent out a CP OSR of 10-12kts so I got on it quick! Headed straight there and it was questionable, gusts of 10-12kts but also lots of holes of 6-8kts. Waited 15 minutes and it was up to a steady 10-12kts so jumped on it!! Felt warmish so went with the 7.0m Sailworks Flyer and the palmless mitts. Wasn't really cold for the full 2.5 hours. As I was rigging up Docker came in with his super-skinny board and foil-assist (uh-hem, cheater!) and HighRocker and GregCan showed up and st ... (more)

Arrived at CP to a pretty low tide and what my wind meter said 7-13kts. I figured if I could get it up, I could stay up and just gybe in the gusts. I rigged the 6.0m and not the 7.0m because the 7 is a lot more work and feels bigger and using the mitts, I don't have as good a grip so decided to go with the 6.0m Flyer. I came from my chiro appt so didn't have the ability to put the wetsuit on at home so I geared down as the back of my van and wetsuited up and yes, it was a bit chilly as it was pouring. Got o ... Sweet Kona winds : ))
Found a quiet little cove to launch from and join in the stoke. The inflatable performed as advertised, bit more PSI over recommended pressure and voila! 'That's more like it!' Champagne conditions in 15kts and soft swell. Comfortably powered with the 4.0 on 1250cm. Mixed flock of wings and kites sailing Wailea to Kihei. It's Maui's whale season and the humpbacks are putting on a great show!

Slowpez, late to the party again. At least I got to chase MtnarG around in the NE chop when he went back in for a second session to keep me company. Thanks, man! He def got the best winds! Just patchy kelp singles in the near shore that made for a nice slalom course. Nice to have the warmer -1degC weather back! Balmy, compared to Saturday's -5 session. There was more wind further out, but I was leery of the wind longevity. My spidey sense paid off as the winds reduced while I stayed close to the put in. Nic ... (more)

Less than graceful!
'Is that an inflatable'? - Yup! Not as bad as it looks, if you can walk a beach ball on a high rope, you can ride this Bad boy in that surf! Bit emotional fighting through shorebreaks with fluffy but beautiful conditions in my book. Swell and waves of every size to pick from. Wind was up and down for the first half, then picked up mid-aft with good waves right in the bay. Kept to my comfort zone in the lower breaks. Colder breeze at 20 deg, shared the waves with more turtles tha ... (more)

I wanted to see if -5degC was tolerable and Bobson was up for it as, usual. I messed up on CP preps, so I ended up foiling at Willows. Bobson came by as he was leaving and confirmed it was still good out there. I chased Jon on my 6m. It was marginal in the bay, good at the yellow buoy level, and +20kts further out. I stayed at buoy level and tried in vain to get Jon on camera. Not unpleasant! I stopped a couple of times to get the blood back in my hands. Only one crash, so not wetted out.

Temperature was -6 on my app and blowing 18kts so apparently that works out to -15 wind chill. The wind wasn't as crazy as yesterday so decided to give it a go. HighRocker said he was in so that cemented it. LET'S GO!!!! Put wetsuit and booties on at home, smart! It felt like it was going to be chilly so brought out the 5/4 wetsuit to be safe. Arrived to a gusty 10-17kts with some holes so rigged the 5.2m Flyer. Put in 40 mins then came in to check on H-Rocker and drink some hot tea even though I was feelin ... (more)

Sunshine and turtles!
Stoked to see a NW on the North Shore today. Arrived shortly after 11 to a quiet rigging area. First on the water with the 4m. Not enough to get past the breaks, reset with the 6.2 and surf was on! More wings joined in, hard to be discrete riding a beach ball on foil, made it work but no extras. Kept to the basic on the lower break, wouldn't venture in the overheads with my amateur skills on the inflatable. Enjoyed two long sessions in fantastic conditions with a dozen other ... (more)

I was willing to follow Bobson into the polar vortex, but no solo for me in that arctic craziness. It felt like a 6m first, but by the time I was good to go, Bob was coming back into the van chalet to get warm and said it was crazy wild out there. I switched to my 5m and followed Bob back into the fray. And what a cray-cray fray it was! OP'd on the 5m and got lots of downwinding practice when I didn't jibe quite tightly enough. Did a few laps and followed Bobson back in when my fear exceeded my joy.

The 36 knot gusts at Piper's Lagoon on the outside didn't seem like a good idea with an air temperature just above freezing. Decided to play in the bay.
The 6m was doing fine until I poked a hole in the wing tip shaking hands with Inskip Reef when I got too close. Time for a sail change to the 7m which was a good choice when the clouds interrupted the "thermal" effect of the sun in the late afternoon. Nobody wants to paddle home with today's temperatures.

With crazy cold tomorrow, decided to cut work early and get some today. Met HighRocker at CP and both decided to brave the conditions. It was 0 degrees and blowing 13-18kts as we were rigging. By the time I got on the water it was blowing 20+kts. I had the 4.5m flattened but was still over powered in the gusts. Water surface was fairly flat when I started but the waves were building as we continued and there was some swell coming in from 10 Mile Pt area. The conditions were pretty cray-cray so stayed fairly ... (more)

Waited for the wind to fill in. I could see lots of wind off shore. Rigged big as the wind at the beach was light. Got out in perfect conditions for me on the 8m. Then the wind really picked up. I held on as long as I could and had lots of good foiling runs. Eventually I had to give up. Good fun. Bragging rights for foiling in the snow.

BIG FISH!
Thought I would log this attempt to commit to memory. Afternoon SW thermals building up slowly so headed down to North Kihei hopeful for a mild tropical session :) As I drove the scenic route noted the brown water line extending some 200m out. Talked to a couple wingers on site to get safe passage away from reefs. I rigged 6m on 1250cm, that should do, walked to the edge of a brown shore break and scanned the horizon. Should I go or should I stay? What could go wrong? Gonna use an Infl ... (more)

All the webcams looked too wild for me, but Willows was flat, minimal shorebreak, gusty, with over 20kt winds showing at Cad. Bigger winds without a shorebreak and tough swell should be ok for my novice skills. 4m lifted easily and I headed upwind towards MTI. Then I got hit with OP gusts that likely approached 40kts. I feared getting my wing ripped out of my hands. I already lost and, luckily, caught my wing at RB 2 days ago. I did a few laps until my anxiety exceeded my joy and called no mas! Still worth ... After checking a few spots, Tweezer and I sussed out Cattle point south boat launch as the best option. Crazy gusts - but still pretty fun novelty session for sure. Hit a submerged log at full speed and thought my Armstrong foil was gone - still there, with just a little scratch on the mast. Fun to see Tweezer on the tiny 2.0 wing! Deep freeze setting in, so good to get a session in.

Tuna and I conspired to try a session at south cattle point boat ramp after looking at the offshore gusts at the teahouse. Highrocker was there after trying his 4m at Willows! We both started on 3.5m wings, but the gusts were nasty. The 2m worked for the second half although it didn't handle the 20 knot lulls very well! Some W wind swell mixed with longer period S swell and lots of logs and sticks.

I knew there would likely be a good reason why no one else was in the water this afternoon at Ross Bay. Got my ass kicked for sure. The gusts were very hard to control, and there was still a lot of stuff in the water. Even with a 3 m, I was getting tossed around like a 195 lb. carcass. Some excellent rides though. Large big rollers in the middle. 4-5ft and solid.

Been so long since a big W in Pat Bay. Looked flat from shore so kept the 1010 on but once out I definitely should have swapped for the 860SP. Decent size, somewhat rideable at first, then it clocked a little more NW and they started stacking together. Had some fun short rides.
Lots of debris from high tide, and murky waters. Snagged a garbage bag and brought it home. Saved an engine or a blowhole!
Thanks BWD for getting the server on battery power!

Hard sailing!
Packed the inflatable for easy travels to Maui, WRONG tool for todays SW Konas! Strong shorebreaks, murky waters and too much wind for the 4.0 (smallest I took). Murky waters just perfect for lurking tigers. Not my best conditions but decided to try a little, then a bit more then couldn't see the reefs but I found them :/ Lots of windsurfers racing by me. Got out after my second reef strike.
