The chase for wind paid off! MtnarG, GregCan, and I checked the usual spots, along with Peninsula north and Esq Lagoon. Either no wind or just way too much shorebreak for my low skills. Heading back from an IV check, I clicked on my link to Willows and saw reduced swell Headed over there and found tough onshore and doable shorebreak. My shortness made it tough to get in and I almost gave up. Luckily I made it in and rode powered up at all times until the park lights came on. OG joy!

Okay, that was fantastic...well, except for the 4 degrees. Saw the multiple OSR's today from the OG's. Decided the last one saying 'Willows is doable', not the most positive but still enough to get me to leave work for some TOW. Headed straight there and saw 2 or 3 Wings, I was so pumped didn't look too closely as the water conditions looked GREAT! 15+ kts and mostly flat water. Got out @1, no increase in temps, stuck on 1.8-2.2? Diesel heat cranking. Had a dicey start wondering about a big swim as I headed out. Barely planing outside 5.3/118. High tide lack of a beach forced me inside ( that's my story and I'm sticking to it!), but allowed me to work on the turns. ALMOST got a tack in.
Blowing rain and 3deg air had me questioning my sanity- especially after the fourth time coming in to dump hot water in the gloves.
Surprisingly (?) i wasn't the only idiot out there.

Tried Marty C. downwind board for the fist time. To much wind and swell for a DW board but was interesting to try. super easy to get board speed. Foot switches were very tough as the board is so skinny. would be better to try it in a low wind smaller swell day.

First westerly of 2024 for me. Beautiful weather. A little cold, but worth it. I feel like I missed out though. The early shift was OK but things really started getting going just as I had to leave. Some good swell. Some weird current that threw me off a little bit. Still quite a a bit of flotsam in the water. And a technical failure. Close off with a long swim in from a drop in the wind. Nonetheless, grateful for everything

Arrived late to a fresh wind of about 20kts. Thought I'd join the twin tip crew but by the time I got in the water the wind had dropped so grabbed the foil and tried to make it work. It continued to drop and I decided it was trending towards a long swim back to the beach so decided to come in. By the time I got out only bobson and someone with what looked like a 12m wing left on the water.

Finally got a session at Point Roberts! After all those windsurfing sessions out there I knew it would be epic for winging. Arrived to find little wind. Several wings were returning to the beach and a couple of folks had to do a bit of a walk. Swapped to the big wing and big foil. Wind started to pick up, so I hit the water. Wind continued to pick up and I was challenged to make it work. Too lazy to go change gear as I was expecting the wind to die down (which it did after I got off the water). Great day. Good turnout with the usual cast of characters.

Fantastic January day, good wind and great waves. Had some longer flagged out rides, the wave direction was fairly south and wind was slightly offshore at the beginning, that combo really helped. Many others out, meeting lots of new friends on the beach. The stoke level was pretty high with the warm weather!

Another superb hour at Ross Bay with Fraser, MtnarG, Tweezer and many of the usual suspects. It was good until my wing leash biner failed and my wing rode the wind and the waves about 100m away from me after a couple of wing cartwheels. Luckily, I have a paddle and know how to paddle the swells. After about 5-10 min of panicked paddling I caught up and secured the wing. Tweezer cruised by seconds later to check on me! Thanks! Great session regardless. Many jibes and even flagged out runs.

Arrived at 9:15am to 5 Wings (Windoc, RBL) out and 1 (Rocky) pumping up. Not much wind inside but 15+ outside. Best winging session I've had locally. Was on the water around noon and the waves were shaping up nicely! Got in my longest wave rides yet, flagged out heal side then into long toe side rides flagged out. So much fun! I'm glad I rigged my W730 instead of the 799 today, it really handles the waves nicely and turns super sharp. The 3.5M wing was too much though, I should have been on a 2.5. Mellow start, rains abated, checked it with no confidence. Decided 5.3/94 combo, was pretty great, 1/3 time OP outside. Rainbow flipping out all over the break. Mostly small to some 4ft wave with 3-4 hits was good fun throughout.
Last warm sesh? 1 old lady geriatric fall, 1 over rotated backie. Push!!! Man! Good crew, cold beer thx Udder!

Double session. After a mediocre snowboarding morning at Cypress, this epic 5m wave session in SSE 25-30 made my day. Tons of bottom turns in waist high breaking waves enjoyed by 8 kites (mainly on 8-10m). Shared some waves with Rob D who was also on 5m+surfboard. Great way to start off the new year :D

What great start for January! 3 sweet wind days out of 5! I like those percentages. I shared the challenging onshore wind/swell with Morgan, Lancer, MtnarG, and Tweezer. Such sweet power, always right there. I ended up trying new movements with many ending wetly. I tried to follow/chase Tweezer around - in vain. Regardless, it was a BDE for me. I had probs with my stbd jibes, but found I wasn't holding the glide turn long enough and trying to cheat with pulling on non-existent wind. Fixed it!

Arrived to CP after work and it looked like I missed it. There were some dark spots on the water out further and some gusts coming through to the beach. So I rigged the 6.0m very fat to make it through the holes. The first 30 minutes, there were some larger holes but then filled in a bit better with less holes. The 900cm2 foil is fantastic.
