My first crack at Clover was a full on fail. I hit RB hoping that Model 2 would come to pass, but nada. I readied to leave and OSRd the OGs accordingly. But, Poper texted back saying that he felt wind at the other side of Clover. I eagerly headed over and did feel decent wind at the off-leash parking lot. But, they were teaser winds. I failed to lift at all, even with my big gear. Tried many times, but it was just pump fest futility. Hoping for Sunday!

Well, THAT was interesting!
Various chorin meant a late start- but wind still blowing, so off to the spit.
Wind still blowing, so decided to do a tour of the main harbor- all good, until the wind strangely died :-(
A LONG trawl back, wondering if I was going to have to do the walk of shame - luckily after a seemingly eternity, it did come back enough to allow me to get most of the way back.
Entertainment for the harbor people if nothing else.

Well, not quite as good as yesterday.
Wind looking a bit iffy, so went with the 6m Big Bertha.
After a bit of pumping, up and foiling; had a few good runs, and then it came in hard - overpowered and really considered coming in for the 5m - but 10 minutes later, poof, and gone completely:-(
Oh well, still a good way to spend a Friday afternoon.

I lent my new watch to a buddy so he could see how the GPS tracks work. He told me that he went out in 8-12kts. He said the wind was quite steady at 10kts with lulls of 8 and gusts of 12. He mentioned that after an hour the wind got lighter so he finished up with a few more foiling runs then packed up and brought my watch back to me.

Arrived and Leddy was just launching on a 5m. ULR said he was on his way so I had to suit up. Just as I drifted out with the 5m, the wind picked up. Came back in for the 3.5 but it was under inflated or leaky. Turns out it's leaking, so switched to the 4m for the remainder. Had to do some shopping, so didn't stay out for the full show.

Wind was more east than usual SE which made it challenging to catch the swell on the outside which was lumpy and jumbled. Tried a couple goofy foot runs which ended in high speed disaster. Mostly frustrating watching Tweezer and others make it all work, but had a few good rides.

Followed RobC in for an early session. The stiff onshore E wind forced me choose 5m. Good choice until winds amped up to 20-25, and was a bucking sail-bronco once it amped up to 30. Tough for me to get upwind, luckily there was plenty right in the bay for some carving and even some short faux-flags. Tried to chase Gordo around to film him, but his intense piloting skills made it tough. Glad to have gotten a short session in before it turned bombo!

Well, that was high on the frustration factor.
Blowing solid 20kts this morning, but high tide and lots of logs meant Pt.Holmes local not an option, so off to the spit.
Unfortunately though, while only a km down the beach, it wraps around enough the wind is always 10knts less.
Tried outside for a bit, but with the less wind, but still reasonable sized swell, made for lots of wing pumping, and not a lot of foiling. Did get few runs, but nothing to write home about.

AJ went to his kite, me to this as it dropped. As expected the 1300 was way more behaved, a number of decent but still chop/wave kissing runs. Tried for higher riding w/ mixed results, did get a fluky gybe on foil tho. Waterstarts much easier than stupid uphauls, launch/wrap up remains a huge pain in the ass. Gonna try a longer fuse next. In Spring, ha!

Drove down to cattle as the OSR for Willows sounded like just enough. Got there was a bit light and every slogging so went for lunch at the club and came back as breeze filled. First 20 mins were ok then very little fly time between with all the lulls. Sunny and quite a few out.

On it early with the Bobson. Some texture in the bay and 15 kts at Discovery, surely we can make that work? Hard work for the first half. It filled in nicely for the late crew HighRock, FraserMc, MtNarG and Gee. The LW board was a session saver : )

Luckily arrived late when the winds were a bit more than light. Great to get out with MtnarG, Danno, GregCan, Bobson, FrayMac. Winds were steadier around MTI level. I didn't notice too many logs, Bobson must have cleared them out for me earlier. My big gear was perfectly suited for the lighter conditions. Danno's new DW board was the right weapon and Greg was killin' it, as usual. The sunshine was pretty nice too.

Got in 1.5 TOWs & wanted 2 TOWs but ran outa time. I have 10 toes but haven't used them to do a 10 TOW since voyaging from Wytecliff Pk to Powell River in 1998.
Today was becalmed for 10mins just W. Of the Cap River at the Kite Launch site. Best wind was off Navy Jack Pt. A nice rainbow and sunny at times but sailed under dark thunder heads too & rode home just as a Hail flurry ended. Bit of New snow on Grouse but not to bottom of the cut yet. Happy to hit 50 Sessions.

Arrived at 11:45am and it looked good, 10-12kts with some gusts looking stronger and looking better upwind. On the water at Noon and basically it was that 10-12 but I had rigged the 4.5m thinking it would strengthen but it didn't. Tried for 20 mins then came in and rigged the 6.0m. I'm such an lazy idiot! Anyways headed back out with Danno and GregCan but it was lighter, maybe 8-10kts....took another maybe 10-15 mins to get going but then the wind increased and more Wings showed up. Catapulted within the first minute and smashed my arm on my mast! That had me rattled for a bit. Should have rigged the 3.4 first but like Jens said it probably wouldn't have mattered. Some incredible waves on the outside! Finally gave in and rigged the 3.4 and was treated to some of the biggest waves I've ever seen in the bay, just as it started to switch. New colours. There were some colours I hadn't seen before in the forecasts. Was thinking the wind was going to blow 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. Van was loaded the night before but I was thinking there was no hurry to hit the insanity of the peak wind. Tsawwassen had other ideas and was texting for company when he arrived solo at Centennial.
